Born and raised in Argentina, David L. Smith earned his bachelor's degree with honors in economics from Dartmouth College and his master’s degree in finance with distinction from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.

His broad perspective on the world economy and financial markets was gained through a 38-year career in the financial arena, including securities analysis a major U.S. bank and various national NYSE/NASD member firms; mergers and acquisitions with a Fortune 500 conglomerate; national securities underwriting as president and CEO of an NASD-member firm, a public speaker (www.smithspeaker.com) and as author for 24 years of Cyclical Investing, an economics/finance newsletter (www.cyclical-investing.com) and more recently, David L. Smith's Cassandra Chronicles, (www.cassandra-chronicles.com and www.cassandra-chronicles.blogspot.com) an invitation to think outside the box by "studying the present in light of the past for purposes of the future."
