A daily description of my love towards food. Baking, cooking, and eating it. I have always enjoyed being in my own kitchen and am always in persuit of the perfect meal. Being a homemaker has been the second greatest thing that I have ever done, first of course having my girls. Theres is no better feeling than taking the day to care for my husband and daughters and filling their bellies with yummy things.

Coffee is brewing. I made a change in last nights dinner. I ended up making vodka cream sauce with shrimp and a fresh baby spinach salad with tomatoes and mozzarella. I enjoyed a cup of coffee with that followed by a white russian. My husband is good at making those for me.
I found an easy recipe for pasta yesturday, so I tried it. The dough is easy to make, there's really nothing to it. But I had the most difficult time rolling it out this enough, and then an even harder time cutting it without it sticking together or losing its shape. I'm gonna look into getting a pasta roller, they seem pretty inexpensive - around $30. We'll see.
So anyways after I let the pasta sit for a bit on a lightly floured bread towel, I cooked it. It looked really bad, but the taste wasn't that bad considering. This will take some work and Im sure at least one more miss. Im also going to look into a bread stone today and see what thats all about. Have a list to choose from, so I dont know yet whats for dinner.

So Im commenting on my own stuff. One thing I wanted to add is that Im trying to become as my husband would say, a bread master. This too has had hits as well as misses. Im learning that yeast breads can be tricky business and sometimes have a mind of its own.

Im new to this blog thing, been thinking about this for a few months now. So forgive me and my page until I get more familiar with it. So here goes!
Today I started with coffee. That is a must. Im not a big breakfast person although I love breakfast food when I do make it. I gave my oldest, Mia, cheerios today. Those are her favorite.
Ive added tomato paste to my grocery list, as well as pea pods, bread yeast, shallots and various sorts of pastas. Speaking of pasta, I am working up the ambition to start making my own. It seems almost too easy to not do, we'll see. If I coould find a recipe that Im comfortable with.
Tonight I plan to experiment with a new recipe although it be sort of a "main stream" type dish. Chicken and rice casserole with cheesy, herbed biscuits (which I make regularly) My husband loves those, even though he splatters them with fresh local honey. Our "bee man" lives like 5 minutes away and has some darn good honey bee's I say.
After the birth of my second daughter, Isabel, dinner was almost impossible. Coming up with something and then finding the time to execute with a nursing newborn was putting myself in the "need to change my routine NOW" category.
So I starting planning meals ahead of time. I have 2 notebooks now that are always out either on the counter or on my desk. One have at least one page of dinners inlcuding what sides I will make. The other much smaller one has any and all recipes written down, only if I havent made it before. If the recipe is worthy of a second "date", then I'll write it down on a recipe card and file it away carefully in my box.
Ive definitly had some serious misses but just as many hits. This system has saved me tons of thinking time, shopping time and just overall makes my day easier. I'll let you know how tonights dinner comes out.
