I was born in Trinidad of British expatriate parents. I spent my childhood growing up in Boarding school in Guernsey (British Channel Islands) and a number of other exotic locations around the world.
I joined the Army and served as a soldier in the Parachute Regiment and an Officer in the Royal Logistic Corps in a career that lasted some 20 years and saw active around the globe.
Having married and had two children, I left the army in 2003 with a Master’s Degree in Logistic Management from Cranfield University and returned to Guernsey.
Since leaving the Army I have worked in the IT and Alumina industries. In August 2008 a car ran me of my bicycle as I rode to work. Following the accident I developed Complex Regional Pain Syndrome. This illness robbed me of my previously active life and left me crippled by unrelenting pain.
The loss of my job and the ability to enjoy all physical hobbies such as water sports, cycling, athletics and archery, made me very depressed.
As I learnt to manage pain, I recognised a need to redesign myself so that I could thrive in a damaged body.
As part of the redesign I have challenged long held beliefs and where I have found them wanting I have changed them. This for example changed the way I regarded religion, and I am now a practicing Christian.
This blog records some of my thoughts and helps me develop a previously hidden talent for poetry. It also helps while away some of my darker nights.

Hi John,
Congratulations for Being Featured... :)
I Really Liked These Lines in "The Visitor",
I laid a humane trap
and bated it with cheese.
I hoped to catch the little beast
and set him safely free,
but the little fella’ had other plans
Have a Wonderful Day & Keep Sharing...
Cheers...
