I am currently a freshman at the University of St. Francis. I play Women's Golf.
Yesterday, I did an experiment where I could not use social media all day. It was by far one of the hardest tasks that I have ever done. For example, one of my friends was in a fight with her boyfriend and I wanted to vent about how I felt about it on Twitter. But I could not do that. I had to just think about it and keep it up in my brain. It is very interesting about how my generation depends on the social media websites. When I am bored I go on Facebook or Twitter to see what people are up to. Instead, I actually went to my friends dorm to see what she was doing instead of asking her on Twitter to do something. To be honest, I do not want to have another day without these social media sites. From my view, It was interesting to see everyone on their phones and I was not on it due to this. It makes me wonder what other people would do without twitter or Facebook. I have done it before when I was four years old. The life without technology was almost better because I did not know everyones business. Today, people tweet and post everything they are doing. Today, I know where people are and who they are with. Back when I was kid I would just go outside and play at the park to just see your friends there.
Also, I was thinking what if twitter was down for a week. What would people do? Actually read a book or sit down dinner with their parents without tweeting about it? I learned from this experiment that maybe I should spend more time with my family and friends instead of being on twitter or facebook.

"People were put on earth to piss other people off."
A comment/response from this person is..
"Dude! Just 5 mins ago I just told off that person who pisses me off! Bitches. Be. Crazy"
I found this interesting. Was this necessary to post on Facebook? I really do not think people were put on this earth to annoy everyone. Social media has become the place to complain mainly on twitter. When I started using social media few years ago it never used to be the complain site. My friends and family would write posts about their life and post pictures. Most of my family would say things about their kids and how they are growing up. As I got older and the friends I was with got older they started to complain about how much homework they had or someone was making them mad. I do not understand why it became like this. Is life really this bad to complain and rant about it? My life has its up and downs but to be honest it is not that bad to go and complain all over my facebook page. As time passes I feel as if Twitter and Facebook is a way to express ones feelings to others can see how you feel bad. I would never go on Facebook or Twitter to Sub-Tweet someone. That person on the other end knows exactly who that status or tweet is about. Its really interesting that the world has come down to all of this.
One of my friends on Facebook posted this:
I'm thankful for all the extra credit opportunities my teachers are giving me. After I eat, that is all I'll be doing. Thanks alot teachers.
This post seems to me like the person is complaining about the opportunity they are given. This person should not be complaining because teachers in college should not have to give extra credit to students in college. We are all given a choice to do good in college. It is not the teachers fault that the student needs extra credit and has to do it over Thanksgiving break. There is no reason for this person to complain about it on Facebook also. This bugs me sometimes that people complain on Facebook. If they have problems he or she should not put it on Facebook for people to see. Most of these people do not care at all.
There's nothing that disgust me more than when I see pregnant girls smoking while thier pregnant. Like seriously? That's your baby? Whether its cigarettes or weed, your baby is inhaling that. Some people have no class/ shame/consideration. Your trash!!!! Ehh!!

I agree! But some doctors say if your addicted to smoking and try and quit while pregnant it could make you stressed and put stress on the baby . Idk i think its still wrong !

Comments from the writer of the status: If your stressed, your babys stressed. But idc how addicted you are. Your babys health comes first. You know? I just get so aggravated when I see that. The baby is gunna have a low birth weight and possibly have other health problems. Some people just don't care. They live in the moment without thinking about the future consequences.

Comment from a friend: Totally agree! I also hate when ppl smoke in front of there babys or kids like really ?? Obviously you dont care for your kids health.
Is this really necessary to complain on Facebook? I totally agree with her status about how pregnant women should not smoke while pregnant. I think this girl likes the social attention. I wonder if this girl smoked while she was pregnant? It is quite interesting to see these people complain about it on Facebook. What are they going to do about it. Are they going to do anything. Is this person going to stop pregnant women from smoking? The point I am trying to say is that if she does not do anything about it then like most posts are then useless.
"I don't want to be anything other than what I've been trying to be lately; All I have to do Is think of me and I have peace of mind; I'm tired of looking 'round rooms; wondering what I've got to do; or who I'm supposed to be; I don't want to be anything other than me."
One of my friends on Facebook wrote a post of this as her status. Some of the posts that this person puts on Facebook mean alot to me. She is a very honest person and she is trying to tell people not to worry about others besides yourself. This is true. I have found this out in college. And learned from this quote from her. As I get older I have out grown about worrying what others think or look at me as. For her to put this on a social media site, such as Facebook it gives everyone the chance to look at it and ponder about it. I like reading inspirational posts about what I should do with my life and how I should vision my life just about me. I am sure others who see this status think the same thing.
"your face is just so repulsive.." #icantstandit
This is a tweet that was said by one of my friends on twitter..Like is this really necessary to say on twitter. People rant on twitter and complain about their lives on it. I find it useless. We are turning into monsters or turning into computers because all we do is sit on the computer. This particular person complains alot on twitter and I sometimes wonder if it makes her feel better about herself to complain. I think maybe she does not have anyone to talk to so in order to feel better to goes on twitter just to rant about it.
What about the person who see's these tweets? Do they think it is about him or her? Sometimes these tweets are offensive. Majorly offensive. In most cases the person knows it is about him or her.
One of my friends on Facebook said Sometime before i go to bed tonight I will be deleting my facebook. Im sick of coming on here to a bunch of girls bitching, ghetto ass lyrics, and those stupid like this like that meme shit. I should be using more of this time to do better at school, not read about how your best friend stabbed you in the back or about the election day or anything else thats equally or even more fucking retarded. Adios"
This post is pretty serious! He is really sick of people posting useless stuff on Facebook but he just posted a complaint which is useless. This kid never posts anything on Facebook and I found it funny because he must be really mad about it all. He has about three posts and videos on his Facebook that have been posted in the last year. And now he goes to say this about Facebook. He must always go on Facebook but never says anything or posts anything. If he does not like people complaining on Facebook, maybe he should delete it or actually talk to the person who is complaining so they do not rant about it on Facebook or Twitter.
Someone said "If your guy wins, you can celebrate. If your guy loses, you can complain, but if u dont vote you can sit there and shut the fuck up"

I found this interesting because this was a tweet by one of my friends. I know a lot of people who are complaining about the presidential election and are not voting. I think it is very important to go out and vote if you want the certain candidate to be the president of the United States.
I think this person is sick and tired of the election, which most people are ready for the election to be over. If the election is that important to you then you should go out and vote instead of complaining about it on Twitter or Facebook.
Someone on my facebook posted "I think I'd vote for a paper bag and potato chip before I voted for Obama"
This is a very broad and harsh statement posted onto Facebook. I opened up my Facebook and this is what was on my News Feed on Election Day November 6th, 2012 ELECTION DAY. I found this interesting because people have become very truthful and honest on these social media websites. I think posts like these are useless. How is this post going to help with people's decisions on who they should vote for? I was honestly disturbed over this post. I would never say something like that about anybody and especially about the President of the United States. No matter what even if I did not like President Obama, I would never go around saying stuff like this over Facebook. Yes, the election is important and the upcoming president but there is no need to go off and say unnecessary posts like this.
Social Media is one of the growing ways of how to communicate now. I use Facebook and Twitter alot to communicate with my friends and family. I am not addicted to it like most people are in this world. I think alot of people use it to keep each other posted about how their lives are doing.

I look back at my first post about social media and it is the honest to God truth that people depend on the Internet. It is the only way in how we communicate. I've come to realize that my generation cannot live without these social media sites. I've also come to realize that I truly have become more addicted since I started college. Everyone uses Twitter and Facebook to communicate with distant friends or family. It is a need, which is pretty sad to be honest. Our world has become based or dependent upon social media and the Internet. I think that it will only get worse. I think that the world will depend on the Internet to communicate from now on and into the future. I take a look and wonder what in ten to fifteen years what my life will be like. Will I talk to a robot to communicate to someone? Who knows. Overall, the world has become dependent on the Internet and I think it will always be.
