Rory Alexander
My pet hate is mass emails and so I started my Rory in China blog. Initially it was just to keep my family and friends updated but it soon became so much more. After struggling with internet restrictions in China I managed to find a way around them and started gaining followers from all over the world. I actually enjoyed the writing and found it helped me cope with the culture shock of moving to and living in a foreign country.
The teaching experience was great but I was still searching for a passion. Since I was a young boy I had wanted to visit New Zealand and so upon completing my contract in China I embarked upon a six-week adventure around both the North and South Islands once again cataloguing my journey on Rory in New Zealand. New Zealand is a photographer’s dream and it was here that my passion for Photography was ignited!
In 2012 I got the opportunity to engage in wildlife photography in the Kgalagadi National Park. This trip was a fundamental turning point in my life as it saw me hone my photography skills and gave birth to Rory Alexander Photography. Subsequently my photo of a Gabar Goshawk won the SANParks Facebook competition and was selected as their cover photo for the month of July 2012.
People say that it is only when we are away from something that we realise how much we take for granted and my love for Cape Town and South Africa saw the creation of Rory in South Africa.
Enjoy.
