Remember the famous lines in Desiderata? - "Do not compare yourself with others for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself." Competition is good if it stimulates you to be a better person than you were before. But competition at the expense of stepping down on a person is sickening as proven by politics scenario. Politicians throw mud at each other's faces and the gesture is not so healthy.And yes, it pays to be a good sportsman.

Exactly....bad sportsmanship comes from the bad intention of wanting to win at all costs. Bad sportsmanship causes so much damage to ourselves as well as to others it is a pity that we can't overcome this trait of wanting to be "better" than others.
