Daniela Longo

I'm Daniela Longo, I was born in small city of Venezuela called Valera, I moved back and forward between my city of origin and Caracas; which is the capital of Venezuela.

When I turned 18 I graduated from San Ignacio de Loyola Highschool in Caracas and months after I moved to Miami Florida to start my college education.

Currently I'm majoring in Broadcast Journalism at the University of Miami, and in the past two years I had the opportunity to participate in two interships that reinforced my passion for the world of communication.

One of the interships was in the Venezuelan channel named Venevison, where I worked in the production of a soap opera called "The Tree of Gabriel" and the other intership was in BBC Mundo, in the news area.

I found my passion at a very young age, and being able to know it has motivated me to keep working for it.

Analyzing the news elements on the Miami Herald story: “Poet, priest give Obama’s inauguration a Cuban touch”.

Read the full story on: http://www.miamiherald.com/2013/01/21/3193855/an-inauguration-with-a-cuban-touch.html

The first element that popped out into my mind was Prominence. Even though that the story doesn’t talk about what Obama said or did in the inauguration, it talks about Richard Blanco and the poem that he read during Obama’s inauguration; which indeed gives the story the essence of prominence. Actually, the writer didn’t use the name of the poet in the title, but the name of the president.

The second element will be unusualness, because of the origin of Blanco. He is the youngest inaugural poet, the first Hispanic, and the first openly gay person to be chosen to present the poem.

Another important element will be proximity. The fact that is a political event and it is broadcast nationally is important for the whole country, but in this case and the story specifically talking about Blanco its really attracting to Miami citizens. Blanco grew up there and he has Cuban roots, which links him to all the immigrants an Hispanic community of Miami.

The last element that I would like to mention will be timeliness. News must be new and this story was posted the same day of the inauguration. The majority of the people on the United States were watching or at least were aware of the event, making it more important and popular that if it was published another day.
