The reason for this blog is to write myself through a new phase in my life - retirement. I have worked since I was 10 years old. Some people describe me as a workaholic; I describe myself as a successful business owner who has worked smart and long hours to make it in the business world.

I am glad some of the info on my site was helpful! I promise you, I work with this stuff every day! I know it's true, but living it all the time is a different matter. The good thing is, once we know, we're at least aware and it really seems like things are so much easier to deal with. I am very glad to hear that you are not sitting on the sofa watching tv! Good for you!

Hello! I love your title line! I can't tell you how many times I tip-toed down to the barn in heels and hose--through the snow--to feed before I drove down the mountain to Denver to work. You just can't get all the hay off. Ah, you do what you have to do!

Hello,
How are you doing with your retirement?
02/03/11 12:06 pm Honey Acres Farm
Well, retirement is slow. I have 2 obstacles; the first is I love to work; the 2nd is getting my mind set for retirement. It is difficult to retire from a profession where you put your heart and soul into making it successful. It is very similar to raising children - I loved every minute of raising them and then one day they grew up, were independent, and left home. They all live locally and 2 of the 3 work within our office so I do have the luxury of seeing them on a daily basis.
That is my retirement dilema.

The picture posted is a picture of our farm the day after Christmas, December 26, 2010. This is very unusual for us because the last time we had a white Christmas was in 1993.
Today, January 2, 2011, the temp is 49 degrees w/strong winds so it seems colder than the 49 degrees. I worked outside for awhile but decided the wind was too strong to make it enjoyable being outside.
This morning when I woke up, I went downstairs as usual to start the coffee and look out the french doors to see if there are any deer; however, today, to my surprise, I was looking at our 4 horses who decided to get out of the pasture and take a walk-about. Thank goodness they decided to stay on the farm instead of going visiting.

Today is January 1, 2011, the first day of the beginning of my semi-retirement. I am going to phase into this taking off every Wednesday and weekends. This is a big step for me since my business requires 24/7 attention. Running a business one day and turning over the reins to someone else the next day is very difficult for me to do. So, I am taking baby steps.
However, I have plenty to keep me busy on the farm so I will not retire and sit on the sofa watching TV. That is not my nature. I cannot stand to sit - what a waste of time.
