Still To Do.......
Come up with ideas for the display...
Call Mr. Camejo at Cott
Decide on size of the display pictures.....
What medium is it being viewed on?????
So lets see bout COTT now....
So I have our list of local music that we want to include and Mr. Enrico Camejo, my contact at COTT, indicated that no rights would need to be purchased once we only use the music for the karaoke. He also asked that we send him a copy of the completed pilot before he give his go ahead.
He also went on to state that we most likely will have to buy rights to include them.
We did not budget to pay for rights...so we will no be using any local music except for the songs used for the karaoke. This keeping it totally local thing really hard especially when it is solely for academic purpose.
Post Production......
With 3 hrs of footage, its time for the Editor to start transforming this to its final product.
We met after the shoot and decided that we will do preliminary editing. This was done as to take some of the pressure off of the editor.
tThe director Cevel did the preliminary editing and we are now down to one hour of footage.
Time to edit and add in the footage from the casting...only to realise...the footage from the casting is missing.
We don't know what happened to it or where it went so as we were already pressed for time it was decided for us to leave out this part.
After discussion with the editor, Mic, he indicated that he would be able to exclude the casting and still produce a creative pilot.
Let the editing magic Begin!
Continuation of Production Day #2.......
the running orger of the day.
We started at 6:30 am sharp to shoot.
1.The first scene of the day, was the waking up of the cast by Nikki. This scene was selected to be the first scene because we wanted to get 'genuine' wake up faces.
Natural lighting was used, so the setting up process was not as long as the other shoots where we used 3 point lighting. The shooting of this scene took about 45 mins as we took 3 takes of all scenes.
We then went on to the shooting of extra scenes (footage of the house, cast entering house, meeting the host). This session ran smoothly.
2.The breakfast scene started after 8.Whilst the setting of the table was being done for the breakfast shoot, we filmed the bathroom scene.
3. At 9:30 we took a break. We had one more scene to shoot, the beer and crix challenge, but this was changed to beer and kurma challenge due to the fact that we feed the cast the crix for this challenge on the first day when the sandwiches wasn't on time. We couldn;t shoot this until after 2 because it was an outside scene and the lighting at that time is not conducive for filming.
We re-assume at 2:30 pm and finally during this time the pool was cleaned. this challenge was done at the pool side.
We finally got to head to the beach to do a phote shoot of the cast.
Finally at 4pm .....it was a wrap!!!!
Production Day #2......
The crew was up at 5am to brainstorm for an idea that will replace the pool scene....It came down to two choices...
1. We wait and shoot the scene in a pool at another location at a later date.........OR
2. We do "The bathroom scene"
Well of course you know we choosed "the bathroom scene".
Why this choice?
The cast and equipment was already there,so no need to put it off. We understood that things like these happen in productions and therefore had to adjust.
.
Continuation of Production Day #1........
We over-worked the fist day due to all the hiccups earlier. We satrted at approximately 4:10pm and finished at 3 am the next morning.
The running order for shooting changed due to the delay. We started off with the confessionals which we did in one of the bedrooms as it was a bigger area to set up the 3 point lighting than the original idea of doing it in the bathroom.
Several takes of each cast member was done so as to get the most relaxed and natural confession. After each cast member the lighting had to be adjusted due to the person hight and complexion. This shoot, was expected to be the simplest, turned out to be a little more time consuming than expected. The cast complained of the heat and the brightness of the lights used.but we made them understand the faster they get it right...the sooner they would be out of the heat!
We were on a tight schedule so we ,we went straight into the karaoke challenge, after the confessionals session. For the karaoke we did 3 different takes as to carture different camera shots...a close up, medium shot and a long shot.
This session ended at at approximately10 pm.
The next scheduled scene was suppose to be the pool scene, however the issue of the filthy pool still wasn't resolved.
* "The Pool Scene"......Most of the cast is asleep at about 2am. A text comes through to Diedre's phone from saying "meet me by the pool."
She sneaks out of the room and goes down to the pool. She meets one of the male cast members there..but his identity is never revealed. They both enter the pool and start a 'make out' session. We then show that someone is at the window peeping. Both the person who saw them and the guy Diedre makes out with remains a mystery.
Solution......
The plan was to sneak to the villa next door and use the pool quickly to do the scene but we had to scrap that idea because the security was up and about and we needed lighting, so we did not want to risk getting caught and therefore not being able to finish our production. So we were left with no other choice but to take a break and come up with a different scene with the same concept.
We went on to do the "vicco scene" which went smoothly after 4 takes and we finally called it a day at 2:35 am on Sunday
Its been a while since my last post due to a crashed computer. Never the less I did keep a diary so that i can update the progress from production to crunch time. So let's begin.......
Production day #1
We got to the beach house at 7:30am although shooting was scheduled to start at 7am. We definitely didn't start anytime close to 7am due to many other factors besides being late.
Part of the crew and two other cast members were very late.
Then we had camera issues and when we finally got this problem sorted out to realise that we forgot to bring batteries for the microphone.
Luckily one of the crew members that was late bought it.
We also had to deal with the suituation of a pool that apparently wasn't cleaned for weeks.- We had a pool scene to this definitely raised some concern.
With all this delay, we got an a house full of impatient crew and cast ...they were complaining and whining...and this was definitely NOT going as planned!
The plan was to begin shooting at 7am and end at 10am (due to the over exposure of light).
Nothing seemed to be going right, so I'll admit, it did cross our minds to call it quits but decided to devise a new plan as to how to ensure that we got all the scenes shot that was originally planned for the day.
New Plan......
1. Firstly we had to feed our crew and cast with the crix we had for the beer and crix competition. Originally we planned to feed them sandwiches but the crew member in charge of bringing the bread was very late. we need the cast to perform so we improvised.
2. We did over a new schedule to shoot the scenes beginning at 4pm as we need some of the scenes to look like early morning and it was easier to replica this by doing it late afternoon as the sunset.
Pre- Production #2:
All that was done in preparation for the weekend of shooting.
1. House was paid for and keys were collected.
2. Collected equipment (this was a little problematic at first since a lot of the equipment was out on rental to another cohort, however, we constantly asked and so in the end we got the required equipment).
3.Made groceries for all that was needed to keep the household for the weekend
4. The running order was finalised, however we left room for changes in the case of unforeseen changes of events
5.after meeting with Mr. Aaron, we decided to have an animation running with the voice over.
6. Finally the cast were given their scripts and they were allowed the opportunity to state whether they were comfortable with their roles.
7. Batteries and extra tapes were purchased for the the shooting.
With all of this done were were ready for the production.
Pre-Production on Island Stew:
The cast was choosen on the basis of the criteria's Island stew team was looking for. We had exactly one week to get everything finalised between the choosing of the cast and the filming at the location in Blanchisseuse. The entire week before production was spent in group meetings, making changes based on the guidance by Ms. Ajim. The concept of the entire show was changed for a number of reasons which included:
1. We included a host to welcome the cast to the house as well as to aid with a smooth transitioning between the scenes
2. We had to have longer and more scenes, so the scripts had to be altered to suit.
3.The casting was proposed to take up most of the 24 mins, however since that has changed, the sequence of the show had to be adjusted.
The concept of the casting for Island stew:
The island stew team decided to let persons submit 'home videos' in order for them to be chosen for the cast. Some persons submitted their own videos, while we went to some of the participants and record their casting ourselves. The concept of the casting footage is to have raw unedited footage. We got 15 'home videos'.
‘Island Stew: Trinidad’ is the Caribbean concept to other reality shows, such as Real World and Big Brother. We are seeking to produce a unique and localised program, one that is relatable to the target audience.
