― It seems to me that side dishes often get treated like second-class citizens on the plate. I'm as guilty of it as anyone. Truth is, I like things like plain mashed potatoes and steamed broccoli. ∙ But it doesn't always have to be that way. Sometimes you want to have a side dish that makes you sit up and take notice.
