About "The Pond"
The answer is that the first chapter of the book is based upon a true event that happened in Kimberton, Pennsylvania in the 1950's. My mother lived on a farm there. She told me the story about a neighboring boy and his tragic walk home after his mother dropped him off to play at a friend's house.
