I am having a lot of problems with my dad at the moment , he was feeling rough at the begining of the week and even sent away the transport for the hospital which I didn't know about until I went round in the afternoon I think it has a lot to do with the fish and chips he has from the local chippy and his stomach cant take ot anymore.
Later in the week I went round and walked into him with his trouders round his ankles where he had another accident after he has sorted himself out I asked him if he wanted me to call the doctor out and he said no the district nurse turned up and I told her what had happened and she started onto him and he caved almost imediatly ( I just love it when he listens to everyone except his kids) I called the doctor out but she couldn't come round for a few hours so I has to wait, I had to tell her on the phone what his symptoms were and even had to describe the sawness he was suffering around his bits, when she finally did turn up it seems that the rash is like a nappy rash and has probably been getting worse for the last few weeks and he also mentioned that the incontinence had been getting worse.
I know it is an embarasiing to talk about problems in that general but it must be worse to have me describe over the phone what his symptoms are and where the sawness is , if he had mentioned this a lot earlier yesterday could have been avoided and he would not have been so uncomfortable for him
I know he is not well I know this and that the cancer will kill him and I think it is on the move but he has to help us to help him and if he doesnt tell someone every time something changes we cant help him to feel more comfortable. I find this so frustrating.

My dad is now back on a cancer treatment ut it has been changed from the trial drug to the standard which should help clear up his ankles but it will also mean his life expectansy will be less , standard of life over longevity yough call.

Rooster ∙ 27 Sep, 10

Haven't been round for a week because I have just gone onto shifts, but went round today as he had been to the hospital and they have decided to take him off the trial drug and put him on the standard one as his ankles are still quite bad because of the reaction with the trial drug, he now has a district nurse come out to him once a week and aso goes to the district nurse based at the doctors once a week as well, he seemed in good spirits today probably because he has been put back on some kind of medication.

Been away for a week but only went to the Isle of Wight so could get back quick if I had to but fortunatly didn't ,my dad went to the doctors and hospital while away the hospital has kept him off the drugs for a few more weeks because of his ankles which dont seem to be getting any better but he seems ok in his self I left him this afternoon when he fell asleep he wont notice I have gone till he wakes up.

Phone the hospital today to get the results of the latest scan and most of the tumors have shrunk by at least 10mm each, although the oncology nurse also mentioned the tumors on his larynx shrinking and later I thought bugger that means he has throat cancer as well.
The other thing that I cant tell my dad is that although they want to take him off the trial drug because of the side affects on the ulcers on his ankles they haven't had funding approved yet for the standard drug , what am I supposed to say they have delayed the next time they see you as of yet there is no authority for you to take the other cancer drug.

My dads been peeing fir england and the rest of the world the last few days and he doesn't always make it to the toilet, he goes to the hospital next week so we should find out a bit more but looks like he has lost a bit of weight which isnt a good sign.
Had a women come to the house yesterday who is a link to the agencies available to him such as age concern and warm care etc and hopefully more money for him in the long term , however long that is , all in all it was quite a succesfull meeting we will just have to see if anything happens hopefully it will .

My dad went to the hospital again yesterday and he didn't get home until 8pm when I phone call out of the blue as he wanted a kebeb.
The hospital have taken him off the tablets again for a month as his ankles have broken out again and at the moment they are quite bad and when he does go back on it will probably be the standard cancer drug, also I dont know if he has lost weight or not but there does seem to be some muscle wastage on his arms.

The problem with trying to tell him anything or ask him questions is that because he is partially deaf he very rarely has his hearing aid on or working which is bad enough but also the TV is so loud that I am shouting over it or he turns it down so that he can hear me but still has one eye on it.
I tried asking him anything but in the end I gave up which I know is bad but it feels like he is and wants to stay in his own very small world.

Rooster ∙ 24 Jul, 10

My dad was suposed to go to the hospital again today for a full body scan but once again the transport let him down.I had to go round this morning and let him know as he didn't hear the phone yesterday when the hospital called. I told him that he wouldn't be going today and he seemed pleased to not have tp go through it again which I quite understand but he needs the scanc so that the hospital can see if the cancer has spread.
I also went through his treatment questionair with him as this has to be done every few weeks as he is on a trial drug, this covers everything from tiredness to weight loss and pain etc.

Been round to see my dad todau he was supposed to go for hart murmur scan the other dat but once again transport let him down.
I wish he would go amd get his hearing aid fixed as I spent this afternoon trying to get him to have a conservation about anything with me, he spent the whole time fiddking with the tv changing the channels and fiddling with the volume from loud to very loud back to loud again, he goes up the hospital next monday week and has another scan the following saturday to see how the cancer is doing can'r wait for those results...........

I think in the near future he will need a lot of help and I do not think that me and my brother will be able to give him the help he needs not because we dont want to but because we wont be able to . We both work fulltime and I will be on shifts and I dont think we will be able to give him the attention he will need . I know this probably sounds selfish but I watched my mum die of cancer apsox 7 years ago and am now having to do the same again.
Not good not good at alll
The other thing is that I will have had both my parents die of cancer so whay are my odds what are my odds???????????
