If anyone with a decent blog is having issues with verifying their blog then the reason is because the video tells u to put the badge as a widget on ur blog but the robot looks at the home page. Most people with a decent blog don't have a sidebar on their home page: They normally have a unique custom home-page template without a sidebar. - Therefore the robot wont see the badge and verify the blog.
The solution: Put the badge-code at the bottom of your unique custom home-page's html; that way it gets read and verification is executed.
