Hello, can anyone explain to me how adsense for search works?? I have it on my site, but do not understand how they come up with the payment for that? Also I have adsense as well, but I am not familiar with it all, and feel like I might be missing out on something. What all should I have, and what should I not waste my time on?

you should use all, you have adsense for content, adsense for feeds and adsense for search engine..
Adsense for content are the ads, you put on your blog for example, an ad banner, side banner etc... sometimes it has image on it.
Adsense for feeds are the ads on your feeds (example feeds.feedburner.com/Your blog name ) it displays ads on your feeds, not on your blog
Adsense for search engine is like a common search engine, for example if your type dog on it.. a list of dog related ads will appear and when some one clicks one of the search results you will earn a commision..
