SEO is a subject that keeps popping up and can cause a lot of confusion.
Many people seem to be posting about SEO yet contradict one another

I've dabbled a bit in SEO simply because I care about trying to get as much audience to my blog as possible. the BEST SEO tip is still to write as good a quality content as you can muster. The second best, is to go on sites like this one, and join talks and discussions, read other blogs and comment. People will read your comments and be curious as to what else you might have to say.
Other SEO tips are more involved. Listing your site on RSS feed websites, Getting backlinks. Worrying about PR and the Alexa Ranking. Targeting comments to certain high ranked websites. Writing articles tailored to specific topics....
SEO can be a crazy thing to get into, and you can get lost in it. I did minor things at first, until I understood it better. Now that I've done a few things, I tend not to worry about it as much, and just concentrate on being social and enjoying blogging.
I agree, it's so easy to get lost! I think you're right though, it's more important to enjoy blogging :)
In the blogosphere my best tip is to go on outreach to other bloggers and find guest post opportunities in your niche. Good guest posts drive traffic to your site and build your SERP's (search engine ranking positions). Plus they help you connect with loads of other bloggers as well. I spend most of my day doing this for clients and its the best way.

I've never actually written a guest post, I've only ever had people approach me to write them. I'll give that some thought.
