Are you still in Christmassy mood? Well, it's only January, outside is cold, so why not sit down in your warm living room and get back in time with Hallmark Christmas movies. I have to say I became a huge fun as soon as I found out that I can watch all movies on youtube.
I was going to respond to this but I see many great reasons have been listed below. I agree with Teddy and LA. Christmas is pretty great if you are a kid and quite fun if there are kids in the family. It's not much fun if not though.
My reasons for NOT missing Christmas are many, 1: It has become commercialized. 2: It starts your next year in the hole so to speak ( if your not making much money ) 3: It leaves you emotionally damaged when others buy you gifts and you have none for them. I know that's what they say its not what it is about but I would bet that if the truth be told, then it WOULD be what it is all about. 4: It is a waste of time ( For me ) to put up the lights spend money to use them then take them down again year after year.
The way I see Christmas is like this. it is a book with a title, but the content is of something that has nothing to do with the title.
WHAT A REAL CHRISTMAS SHOULD BE LIKE.
1 Take the money that would have been used for all the gifts for all of the friends and family members and the cost of electricity and food and the gas for the cars, airplane, train, bus tickets etc. combine it with all of the people that would join this type of movement then find the family's of EVERY RACE not just the Blacks, Mexican's or Whites, Find these family's who have nothing and buy them clothes, food, rent, and toy's for those children who Christmas holds no meaning other than it being just another hungry cold day.
We buy for those who already have and feed those who already have plenty and buy toy's for those who have so many that they have to throw away what they have in order to make room for the new things. We call it Christmas but it should be called moreforus. I have seen with my eyes and walked among the dumps and watched the children first hand trying to find something to use and eat. I have seen and lived in the poverty of those people. I say that we help on the day of plenty. I say that we START with our children and family's and THEN work outward to those of other country's.
I agree with Teddy and positive. Christmas does have a tendency to kick start off your new year in the broke gear and not to mention, your broke because your giving your relatives who already have more. I understand it's a day of appreciation...kind of...more of a reenactment of Jesus birthday. But we spend TONS of money we sometimes do not have to get out loved ones a gift; I look at it like this, I would rather see my loved ones have there lights on instead of getting me a gift that they were not sure I liked. If they have the money or if I have the money to get a gift, then by all means... but its became a mandatory holiday more then a giving holiday.
Wow, didn't expect this, but it is a nice explanation. I do agree with you, nowadays it is all about presents and it does cost a lot. :-) I believe gifts of time and love are the basic ingredients of Christmas. When its Christmas me and my boyfriend, we always give our old clothes nicely packed to a homeless people.
But I'm surprised to see how many of you are happy for Christmas to be over. There is also a positive side to Christmas. :-)
I agree with you positive fountain about there being a positive side to Christmas. But it get's over shadowed. Black Friday is mostly to blame for this...the Christmas holiday starts off with greed from corporations and creeps it's ugly little head into our minds...so all we see is sale sale sale sale sale all over the t.v. Marketing for every corporation uses EVERY single human psychological factor they can around this time. I wouldn't be surprised if they sprayed Pheromones on all of their products in order to get people to buy even more stuff they didn't even need...by the way, that is one trick some companies use. This is why sometimes you end up buying stuff and a week later, after the pheromones disappear, you have no interest in it. Bring Christmas back, gifts are ok but it shouldn't be mandatory; if someone doesn't get me a gift, I'm okay with that. As long as I get to laugh and eat with my loved ones I'm good to go. lol
I am a bit since this holiday I hardly got a christmas holiday I feel like I didn't have one 8( ... so I do kind wish it was Christmas again so I can experience the the proper get together, the big family meal and snuggle up the sofa and christmas tree ^^
