Being a Vegetarian

Zotwot on Vegetarian, Vegetables

In October I'm doing the challenge of being a vegetarian for a month. It's kind of an experiment to understand why people are vegetarians, how it affects my health and whether it makes any difference to the world.

If you are a vegetarian then it would be great if you could write a few words about why you are a vegetarian and how strict you are about it (are you vegan, do you eat fish etc). I'll use the best ones in a blog post at the start of the month and I'll happily put names and blog links with them so there's a bit of incentive.

Hope you reply!

I gave up meat and eat mostly vegetables and fruit. But I do eat fish. I think I gave up eating meat for health reasons. I like eating meat way more than I should when it is not something that is so necessary to survive. You simply need protein which can come in the form of beans and nuts as well. I add fish to it so I don't completely lack in protein as it is needed to survice but I have realized that I am not totally lacking anything without meat. That's why I chose to give it up. And I've lost some weight doing it.

I have been a vegetarian since I was six years old. I did a project on animals at school and decided that I didn't want to eat them any more. My family went along with this as they thought it would last a week or two, but I'm still a vegetarian now! It has been such a long time, I don't think I could eat meat again.

I don't eat any meat or fish, but I do still eat dairy products, so I am a vegetarian, not a vegan.

I hope your challenge of being a vegetarian for a month goes well :)

I am a vegetarian, not a vegan. I never liked the idea of eating animals and therefore I have always been sick of eating meat. One day I realized that I had stopped eating meat altogether and began to call myself a vegetarian. I will probably never eat meat again.

Just remember to replace the meat in your diet with something. It is important to get enough protein. Eat lots of beans, lentils and nuts.

Hmmm tried this before but probably did it wrong. Wasn't getting enough calories and ended up being cranky the whole day lol. I might give it a go again but not all the way. Maybe just add a lot more veggies and fruits to my diet and lessen the meat. I don't think I could ever completely give up meat though.

I just became vegetarian about a month ago. I do still eat seafood though. I did it mostly for health reasons, just also for ethical reasons. While I don't have anything against eating meat, I do have a problem with how big companies treat animals to get more money. I personally don't want to be involved with that. If every meat provider was committed to kind and healthy raising of animals, and more merciful ways by which their meat is harvested, it probably would have been harder for me to become vegetarian. Now that I am vegetarian, though, I'm loving it. I feel like I'm experimenting more with food, and really experiencing all the flavors there are to enjoy in the world that are truly good for you. Also, since going vegetarian, I've noticed a huge shift in the way I feel. I wake up so much easier in the morning, sleep much better at night, feel way less stressed, and am just much calmer and happier overall. And losing 5lbs. in two weeks is definitely an added bonus!!!

I only eat chicken occasionally, and I'm lactose intolerant so I tried being a vegan for a month, which was still quite hard. I lost a stone in a month and so reverted back to eating how I do - I base all my meals on fruit & veg, but I do eat tuna, eggs, and chicken sometimes. I found it ok, and for me personally, more restricting. I prefer eating how I do. :)

Im not a vegetarian, but I don't eat that much meat. My husband and son love meat, especially beef, lol. but most of what I eat is fruits, vegetables, and tofu. Oh and dairy. Thats why I could never be vegan, I love animal products too much esp. eggs and milk, lol.

I have noticed that when I eat meat my body feels different (depending on what kind of meat I eat) Tofu has so much flexibility you can do whatever you want with it.
