Blogging dishonesty?

Andregs

I have noticed I get a lot of friend requests/private messages of people that don't bother visiting my blog, hoping that I will visit them back/vote/follow on GFC and so on.

Isn't this dishonest? I mean, the traffic increase these people are after, won't last long. It personally bothers me that there are so many people focusing on increasing their traffic no matter what, with the only hope that they can use their blog as a way to make money.

...or maybe I'm just too purist?? Is anyone else annoyed by this?

I'm with you on this one but I'm not too fussed on here, I'm more purist on GFC... I follow people's blogs who I have enjoyed/ will continue doing so on there more so than on here. Cheerios for now ;-P

True, completely agree with you on keeping GFC for the blogs that are worth following! And I guess maybe I'm too demanding, since it would be impossible to decide who should join, or ban those that are not exactly what they're supposed to do! Cheerios for everyone!

I vote, follow, add, or join a blog because I am genuinely interested in their blogs and it's not about getting more traffic. Of course I would love everyone to join my blog via GFC but ONLY if they are interested in my posts and not because they want me to return the favour.

I do actually spend the time reading, commenting on the blogs I follow, the friends I have here and on other social networks, although it does take a lot of time, and I can't get to everyone every week but I do try my best to go through my list.

We all want traffic but numbers don't mean anything if nobody is reading....
I totally see your point. I say, just be honest in what you are doing, and concentrate on providing good content.

Yeah, that's the spirit I have about blogging, and it's a relief that many others share my point of view, for me blogging doesn't make sense if you care about numbers and not content, and if you don't participate of what other bloggers have to offer!

Since I have started my blog and joined Bloggers I have also noticed the same thing. I get friend requests and private messages from some that are spammers or just looking to raise votes and followers. I have declined a bunch of these, and will now only respond to real bloggers that interest me and are genuine.

It's a bit disappointing, yeah...but I also noticed that the longer I'm here it's easier for me to be able to distinguish who are true bloggers and who are spammers! At first I thought that was what this page was about, and was afraid I wouldn't find people that would actually read my blog, but I realized not everyone is like that :)

It never really annoyed me as such....I come here just to talk about random stuff. :D
Although I did get annoyed just this once...wrote a status on my fb page apologizing for no new post this Thursday because of the rough phase I am going through in life and hoping in time it will be ok

Someone liked the page and writes a comment right below asking me to like their page.....dude really?does it look like I want to like a page I have no idea about at a time like this? *facepalms*

Obviously the person never even bothered to check out my blog...oh he did not evne check the status then let along viewing my blog geez..

1. How do you determine when someone has visited your blog?
2. Have you thought that maybe they decided after viewing your blog that maybe they're not interested in following?

There's a couple of things I can't stand:

~ People just expecting you to follow them back.
~ In my comment section asking me for a follow back.

At the end of the day, I don't mind if someone wants to friends with me on bloggers but not subscribe to my blog, perhaps they like me as a person but not what I blog about ... that's totally their choice and I respect that.

Andregs ∙ 25 weeks ago

Haha, well, I can't of course determine who has visited it in 100% of the occasions. And I'm not expecting that everyone will follow, that's for sure!

But I have just started my blog and that means I don't get that much traffic the days I don't post, and I have noticed that sometimes I get 3 or 4 friend requests, and the pageview hasn't moved, or the views are not from the countries the friend requests come from (I have been online while this happened so I know how many views there were before the friend request). Maybe this is not always accurate, but has happened more than once.

But what you said is pretty much my point...I don't want to follow or comment anyone if haven't seen a blog...and I'm not expecting that for me either! Maybe I'm too strict on friend requests too...thanks for commenting!

GFC that is being phased out shows how much these people know it's all about Google+ now.
