Yeah they can... but most sites are scams and really aren't worth going on, your best sticking to adsense and payperpost sites like linkshare :)

making handsome income by blogging is not an easy task . it needs lot of hard work , commitment and dedication . keep updating your blog regularly. write quality content. once you get minimum 1500 unique visitors per day. you can make money.
