I allways take into consideration my niche and if there are anyother sites out there with similar names. I think it's best to Google for blogs in your particular niche, write a list of the names and then come up with a list of your own based on the first list.
That's how I do it :-)

Yep Thanks! This make sense. Also like to include, if you use name in website that sounds crazy to memorized visitors.
For ex. my blog is http://www.jhakasseo.blogspot.com/
The name is "jhakasseo" in India Jhakas means very good. because my target visitors are from India. this short n sweet name for website helps peoples to remember.
