Do u believe that rituals r essential to feel God's presence?

Ritesh Srivastav on Rituals, God, Significance, Religion

I should start my answer with an example I think. Mahakumbh in India is an occasion inviting a holy dip into the Sangam(confluence of 3 Indian rivers) ,that can wash away the sins committed during the lifetime of a person. At present this grand event is going on in India in Allahabad. This event takes place every 12 years in cities of Nasik,Ujjain,Haridwar & Allahabad.Tourists from all over the world visit this event to feel the joy of sacred bath along with the religious fervor of indian people. Around 10 to 30 million people congregate here & u can urself feel the intensity based on these numbers.
Now as per definition, rituals r the beginners gateway to enter into the deep waters of religion in search of spirituality. Many so called modern guys consider all these rituals meaningless & useless. They mark rituals as an exploitative weapon to fool the society at large & they r not wrong in totality if u observe history. But then why the people r attracted inspite of modern developments in science & philosophy? Well, there can be multiple reasons behind it but the basic reason is that they still don't find rituals useless & meaningless because their belief systems r strong enough to tackle any attack of modernity. They wholeheartedly believe that they r going to benefit from it & the divine blessings will surely come to them sooner or later.
What I believe is rituals r alright but staying in them throughout life ignoring the higher & spiritual element of religion is the incomplete understanding of religion. There r many stampedes in India especially at such religious gatherings where the administration finds extremely difficult to manage the crowd effectively & more than people r willing to risk their life for the sake of religious reward from the unknown master.
Change is an essential element of time & here is the requirement of merging out culture with modern understanding & development. Both of them together can only be relevant for future generations.
I think many of my European & American friends find it little awkward & interesting but this is the reality of modern india.
Do give ur opinions about the topic & share some of ur rituals which u feel about & the way u connect through them...!

No, I don't think rituals are essential to feel God's presence. I think rituals are helpful to connect us with the divine, but they are really only means to an end, rather than ends in and of themselves.

Dear Ritesh,
As we are humans, we need to feel with our senses, being quiet, in a special place, being with yourself alone, I think, youre prepaired to think on God and feel him, bur I need my own rituals and faith act to feel the presence of all good things tha Gor can trnsmit us to be better with ourselves and then with all people around us.
Best regards,
MIles.

Gday Retish

I was going to say no to this but in thinking about it I would have to say yes especially for those who dont believe.

Ritualism is just another form of a habitual act which is needed to induce a state of mind & awareness like with meditation for example, the more ritualistic/habitual one is with this form of practice the more one feels at one or closer to God/the source. If I was to meditate once in a blue moon the effects of a mediative state would be far less than if I did this ritualistically/habitually.

Any form of a ritualistic/habitual act induces a further awareness in whatever we are trying to induce in the first place for example I can feel & know of Gods/the sources presence but when I induce this through ritualistic meditation the feeling of that connectedness is much greater, it becomes unquestionable.

I can only share what I have inside me and that is that to be connected to God is to be connected inside yourself. You don't need anyone to tell you how to connect with yourself just embrace yourself in the essence of yourself. You don't need your mind to tell you just tell your mind to focus on your heartbeat and become present in the moment. Let the mind noise fade away and realize that you are this moment. God has no place in the current mode of thinking as some make it a figure of some kind. But to know the source is to be the source. Any animal or nature can show you or take you to that source, they are always present.. the more you embrace the present moment the more God will come to you. I read this and realized I didn't need to seek any form of religion or a need to find a ritual to show me what I already knew inside me...

Love is a state of Being. Your love is not outside; it is deep within you. You can never lose it, and it cannot leave you. It is not dependent on some other body, some external form. In the stillness of your presence, you can feel your own formless and timeless reality as the unmanifested life that animates your physical form. You can then feel the same life deep within every other human and every other creature. You
look beyond the veil of form and separation. This is the realization of oneness. This is love. What is God? The eternal One Life underneath all the forms of life. What is love? To feel the presence of that One Life deep within yourself and within all creatures. To be it. Therefore, all love is the love of God.

Rituals are important, but the way you see that matters more. As every aspects have its own significance in our life. For eg., When a teacher comes to the class the students rise and wish them, showing their respect ( In the Indian Scenario). Dont it give a positive feeling to the teacher.
Life is what you define, when you approach a fact with a positive attitude it appears positive to us. there should be always a line of clear distinction between ritual and superstition. The ultimatum of being near to god is not simply rituals but the true devotion what you have. If your wish is sincere, the it will be answered. Just look into the story of Krishna and Kuchela, all the rituals of meeting a King was not met in the case of Kuchela, but still Srikrishna could receive the simple rice flakes his poor friend brought for him. Its not what you give that matters but how you give, same too with devotion

I think rituals are important for us humans to help us focus and connect with God in a physical way. But the physical act means nothing it is the spiritual aspect that matters, ie; what we feel inside.
