Yes it is the real deal. Alot of advertisers look at that ranking as well. I have been working on my ranking since I started this blog a month ago. I started at 12million and I am down to 2.2million already. =)

I think it's a functional evil....Alexa is more reliable than Google. My page totally got 'Pandalized'! Though, I don't like that my ranking is in the millions...

Alexa Ranking is based on your website traffic. That's why they call it Alexa Traffic Rank. If you have many visitors coming to your website everyday you will get traffic rank so high. As of now my website only getting 150+ visitors/day and my alexa traffic rank is "400,100"

Hope this helps

Edille Rosario,

I agree that its based on website traffic. But wondering why the rank is not increasing when the traffic increases? sometimes the ranks comes down so drastically.

We notice it's a lot different than google webmaster as far as links go, why is that?

Renjith Menon ∙ 8 Jul, 11

Moonomo ∙ 13 Jul, 11

I haven't put up Alexa Ranking in my blog but I have visited the site. When I checked my blog's rank, there was a big difference in terms of number of visits compared to what I already have at my blog. It surprised me because I don't know which one is more reliable. And that enormous number of visits is so unbelievable! That's how I feel.

Please, enlighten me on this matter.

@Renjith - Your traffic is increasing but the alexa rank is not. The answer is simply because in alexa ranking, we have competition.

For example:

I have website which generate 100 visitors / day and alexa rank is 999,998.

You have website and generate 99 visitors / day and alexa rank is 1 million.

Now you say that you getting much traffic now but alexa rank is still not increasing, simply because I am generating much more traffic than you so your alexa rank stay the same. That is "COMPETITION".

Generate much more traffic than me so you will get my alexa rank (999,998) and I will be in your previous rank (1 million) - this is just example

Hope you understand my english :D (sorry I am not american)
