FACEBOOK CLASSIFIED AS DEPRESSING

LA Green

So there is a new study that shows FB users being depressed. depressed? This is what the study states, it states that most FB users are depressed because of friends post. If you have friends who are doing extremely well, always on vacation basically living the life you want to live, this can bring about the feeling of depression. My thought: You were probably depressed before you created FB. I don't think FB can make you depressed. I mean, if you see some of these people on a regular, you already know there doing well. What's you thought?

LOL! How exactly did they conduct this study? Did they randomly survey and ask a sample size of 200 people to express how they felt about their experiences?

@Mr Charming. As funny as what you said sounds, yes they did. Most of the people they found to be depressed because of FB, were in the age range of over 30. It makes sense. Yet at the same time, I don't think FB had anything to do with a person's depression. lol I'll say this much, I think they were already thinking these thoughts and FB helped them confirm it.

The problem about technology: On FB, we see people post pictures of a vacation and it shows them happy or flaunting something new they got...in reality, the person may actually be crying when posting those pictures. So for those who get jealous or depressed and say fml because that person is doing better then you, remember that may not always be the case; you might actually want to call these people...just to. Let me get back to the problem....the problem with technology is were beginning to lose that human contact.

How many times have you been talking to someone online or texting someone and thought everything was ok? At least with a phone call, you can hear the person's voice and know that everything is ok; there have been plenty of times I thought a person was mad because the text was vague then I talk to the person and remember, there not mad that's the way they speak; there a calm person. Calm, when texting does not translate as calm; it translates as upset or stand-offish. My point: We have to speak to each other. Although it might be the "cool" thing to Facebook or text someone, lying still exist and devices make it THAT much easier. =/

Ha, I got off of facebook because it is so boring in my area. I made a comment about a month ago that if I left for a month that when I returned after a months absence that nothing would change and that my niece would be posting the same thing. Guess what,,,, I was right ! I went onto facebook and there it was,, her saying that she was sleepy and that she stayed up and that she partied to much. My friend puts on there every place that he is at. I could find him with no problem. I like things that are informative but valuable information and the only way facebook would be valuable to me is if I was a detective or a stalker.
At least on my facebook site. I could find just about anyone that I want by searching for the person or friends and family of that person. EVERYONE OFFERS UP THEIR PRIVACY with no reserves at all. Great tool for the FBI and government officials.

Yeah I still use FB and actually I find it more refreshing here on Bloggers. Why? I'm talking to everyone. lol. I talk to those on FB but I find myself commenting more then actually having a conversation. My friends and family have entertaining lives and I can see how someone can get depressed; hell, a friend I know went to Puerto Rico a few months back, a place I've been dying to go to and I was a little jealous BUT it didn't make me want to kill myself. Idk...I think this news should be looked at; or maybe this will snap us out of the hypnotized technology clouds for a second. Welcome to the Matrix. =)

Sometimes, Facebook can remind you of the societal pressures of traditional living such as relationships, marriage, having children, a flourishing career...etc. Facebook can remind you of what you are lacking, hence, resulting in depressed moods. This study actually makes sense.

I fully agree. Those that spend a large time on Facebook truly are depressed. Its scary when you read a ton of facebook posts, its hard not to get depressed. Everyone venting their drama.... Its like Jerry Spring or Maury Povich, but you know the people. and those shows were designed for depressed couch potatoes. So yeah....

That is sooooo true . it is mostly a bunch of useless rhetoric. few things that have any value at all. I even posted once a request for some kind of instructional study and no one replied, but continued on with useless information. I wish there was a public sight that I could find with complete in depth studies on different subjects. call it the learning site, stop, place or whatever.

I agree as well. My timeline on fb is always clogged with complainers etc. I don't even like to look at it anymore.
