Going to the Airport

Susana King

Everytime I go to the airport, I experience the same thing. When they are announcing the flights over the microphone I cannot understand a word as I am 90 percent deaf and rely on lipreading. So the last time I went, I notified the lady at the booth to wave to me when my plane was boarding. Well, she forgot all about me, and I saw people boarding the plane, so I had to ask again if that was my flight. What things could they do to make it easier for someone deaf like me to understand when my plane has arrived when I can't understand a word over the speaker? What are your thoughts on this?

I though airports had those large boards that told you what gate you needed to go through and when to board. So even if you can't hear an announcement, you can at least see the details then double check by contacting a member of staff.

Maybe as soon as you arrive at the airport, you should let them know that you are deaf and need special assistance so that you don't miss your plane. Just a couple of thoughts.

Hi, I just read your article and it was good. And thankyou for your suggestions. I might have to speak up more when I go to the airport.
