Have you ever seen God?

Aakriti says 572 days ago

we are so busy in our everyday life that we underestimate those miracles that God use to do for us...to make us feel His presence....have you ever wondered about this?

me too. lol

YaGirlNextDoor says 572 days ago

I have feel is presence. Look around and you see GOD in people, nature and acts of kindness, love and generosity.

Illbethewriter says 571 days ago

Why does there have to be a God for people to be kind, love and be generous?
I wouldn't credit a supreme entity for that. I think people should be given credit for that themselves.

YaGirlNextDoor says 570 days ago

@illbethwriter, I didn't ask you who you give credit to. That's not what Aakriti asked. My belief is that those things come from GOD or are GOD-like, so that's why I made that statement. That statement was stating where those traits come from and my heart says GOD.

Illbethewriter says 569 days ago

Misogyny is also 'God-like'. Do you believe that comes from God?
Do you not think it more likely that being 'good' has evolved to ensure our existence?
I'm pretty offended that you think that the only reason that I perform good deeds is because of a supreme being. In other words if God did not exist I would not be good at all.
How narrow-minded.

Sweetie, there is nothing I can do about you feeling offended about MY personal beliefs. You will find yourself getting offended by a whole lot by other people if that's ow your mind set is. I, like many others will not, change the way I feel to please others. That is why it's called "My" beliefs because it applies to what "I" believe in. Aakriti asked if we were so busy in our lives that we underestimate the miracles GOD does for us...Now I don't know what misogny is but I am familiar with misogyny, which is the hatred for women, which the last time I checked is NOT a miracle of any sort nor as you stated GOD-like. Last I read, GOD was not dishing out the haterade to any woman. So what does that have to do with this discussion? And YES I do believe that GOD created all things good as well as instilled it in us through the works of others such as parents, teachers, friends pretty much people you encounter. If you find that narrow minded, you are entitled to your opinion just as I am entitled to my beliefs. Do I give credit to people who do great and wonderful things, of most definitely. But MY belief is that need and desired to do so was instilled in them by GOD through the works of others. We learn to do good deeds, just like we learn to do most of the things we do right now. Learn through watching others...direct teachings....we all learn. That my dear, is my personal belief.

Far be it for me to join into an argument between other people, but I couldn't help myself.
Firstly, I don't know why you said you don't know what misogny is but you know what misogyny is. Illbethewriter spelled it "misogyny."
Secondly, if you see God "in" people, then you must be a believer of Eastern religions. Western, including the Abrahamic, religions separate the creator from the creation. God can not be "in" or "a part" of anyone. It is a separate entity.
Thirdly - you never saw God dish out "haterade"? Could it be b/c that ridiculous play on Gatorade didn't exist when the religious books were created? Or could you maybe just have skipped over Genesis. The first story starts with Adam and Eve. If you don't know of the misogyny in that story, then you may need to read it again.
Lastly, if you think God is responsible for all the acts of kindness, nature, etc, then it is also responsible for the bad.

“Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?”
-Epicurus

"I will greatly increase your pains in childbearing; with pain you will give birth to children. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you." -Genesis 3:16
-"God"

@YaGirlNextDoor - please refrain from lecturing me (or anyone) about God until you've read your holy book. Holy books (apparently authored by God and not elite patriarchs) are amongst THE MOST mysogynistic written works that have ever been created. If I were you, I would start questioning my beliefs if I wasn't even aware of that fact.
Also.. 'dear'.. don't accuse me of mispelling 'misogyny' because, as Bruno Rodrigues pointed out, I spelt it correctly.. That might indicate that you miss misogyny even when it is as plain as day in a text.
As for miracles - do you think that it's possible that they don't exist? Are you sure that there's not a perfectly valid explanation that doesn't involve divine intervention? Why don't people grow back limbs?

Aakriti says 571 days ago

@lllbethewriter.....if u'll give credit only to people.....then u have to credit the good as well as the 'bad' deeds they do....and now a days we rarely find good people around us. if there is no almighty to control all of us.then dont u think our earth may die with human evil deeds????

Illbethewriter says 569 days ago

I think it's beneficiary for people to be good as well as bad. If everyone was bad then we wouldn't exist any more because we would have turned on ourselves. It doesn't benefit us to be selfish and cruel all of the time. Therefore I think being 'good' has evolved in a meme-like way.
I think you're exaggerating the amount of 'bad' in the world - everyone is 'bad' to some extent. It's called being human. But I think most people have the ability to be good. I don't think anyone is inherently evil.

God is always there even though we can not physically see him! The more we draw close to him and call on him the more we will start to understand and see the wonderfully things he does in our lives each day x

It would be interesting to hear what god actualy does and what you hold him responsible for, does he control all good deeds done or just some of them, does he sometimes decide to cure cancer? if so why has he never re-grown an amputated limb? Also what evidence you have for him doing these 'miracles' if any, as christopher hitchens said 'what can be stated without evidence, can be dismissed without evidence'

i think our discussion has zigzagged....but still i want to make a nous about all this.
lets consider our nature first,,,which is nothing but the most enticing creation of almighty!!here we find very beautiful n colorful flowers with a sweet smell....isn't it a miracle of God?? can any human fill these natural colors n beautiful fragrance in such a living thing!!!! don't we get astonished ,,when we see a very beautiful butterfly sitting on a beautiful flower....there are many more things in nature which are enough to prove the powers of God...i know today we are living in a world where technology rules...but theism still exists..even today when we are surrounded by some problems or difficulties...the first thing that we do is to remember God once....though we remember him just to blame him for the obstacles that he has given to us.....but i think we remember only those things which exists....
even today while starting a new job.....or a new career....we call som positive energies first.and thes energies are nothing but the GOD.....!!!!! its not necessary to prove these things that has already been proven....and miracles will not be called miracles if we have evidences for them....miracles come here own way...the one who experiences it can believe it....and its the GOD who decides and chooses that to whom he will show His miracles!!!!!!!!!

Beauty does not prove God. Ever thought that flowers may have evolved with fragrances to attract insects for pollination in order to ensure the survival of their species? Some flowers aren't pleasing to our sensory receptors - such as the Titan arum or 'corpse flower'. Their fragrance attracts particular kinds of insects that live in their habitat - there'd be no point it having a fragrance that attracts the British honey bee when it only grows in Sumatra.
To use a very famous quote "A garden can still be beautiful without believing there are fairies at the bottom of it."
"miracles will not be called miracles if we have evidences for them" - it is pretty ridiculous that you call anything that can't yet be explained a 'miracle'. If everyone thought like that you would not be using the internet today because no one would ever question anything and always put it down to 'miracles'. No one would ever investigate anything because they would think it is a 'miracle' and so no one would ever learn about the way anything works and we would never discover cures for horrendous diseases like cancer.
It is a good job that there are people out there who don't have such an ignorant view of the world.
Not so long ago we could have put natural disasters down to 'miracles' because they could not be explained. Thankfully someone did not believe it was inexplainable and investigated why natural disasters come about. Now we can predict when natural disasters are going to occur and can save some lives. If it was down to people with your 'miracle' point of view we would never question anything and be living in worse conditions because of it.
If something cannot yet be explained I think it's a lot healthier and practical to think of it as that - something that cannot YET be explained rather than a 'miracle'.

every piece of evidence or proof or some even that you think god is responsible for can and would happen and also be explained if there was no god, so iv got to say that your arguments so far are void. I do agree the original subject has zigzaged, but hopefully everyone is finding it interesting. If i could propose a question to anyone who believes in a god reading this - do you believe god gave us free will, and also do you think that god has a plan for you?

Sudheera says 567 days ago

I have seen god in the form of good people.

Aakriti says 566 days ago

@lllbethewriter....i kknow u are very practical about life.....i think God does'nt exit for you!!and i thnk you have never been blessed with miracles!!!!It seems that you are so efficient with your own self that you dont need any help from anybody!!!!!! you can solve all your probs by yourself!!!so its good for God perhaps!!

Illbethewriter says 566 days ago

LOL - that is all.

What would you say?
