How do I get more genuine followers on my blog?

JuliaJulia on Follow, Blog

Hello! I am a new blogger and I am wondering how to get more followers on my blog. I want to get followers who actually want to see my content, not just follow backs. Does anyone have any advice for me? :)

Just talk to people who visit and they will keep coming back. Furthermore tweet about your blog and comment om similar posts.
And just keep posting and people will follow you.

I almost got 100 followers now and I never begged or talked about follow backs. I know it is not a lot but at least I know that they like my blog and not add me just for the followback.

i wondered the same thing when i started out and this is what i discovered.

just keep blogging and putting out great content of what you are talking about. people will start to come to your blog and those who are interested in your topic will keep coming back and then they will start to follow you. those are the followers you want. the ones who are truly interested.

don't try to focus to much on this aspect and keep doing your thing. they will come.

hope this helps with some perspective. thanks.

Looking at your blog it seems you're doing pretty well for yourself as a new blogger. You're encouraging interaction and for your readers to follow you. Good job.

If you're looking for more genuine followers from bloggers I would recommend putting a little more information about yourself in your profile. That way people browsing are more likely to click through and check your blog out.
Genuine users here are looking for people with similar interests. Since you have a life blog your target audience is going to be 18-25 year-old girls. Sure you'll get a few others but that's mostly who is going to be interested in your content.

Look for other blogs that are similar, look for people who you think would be interested in your content. Leave a genuine comment for them and then a link back to your blog.

And keep writing great content on a regular basis. That will keep people coming back and linking to your blog to share it with others.

There is nothing wrong with following people back on twitter. Especially if they are in the same niche as you. There are loads of things that you can do to increase your Twitter following on your blog.
Take a look at this post i wrote a few months ago on how to get thousands of twitter followers on your blog :)

Julia, you are absolutely right to avoid the "follow me, follow you" syndrome, because any followers you get that way are only collecting the numbers and will never actually read any of your work.

At this stage of your blogging career, you must expect things to be slow. When I started, I looked for blogs that were discussing the same subjects that I was writing about, then leaving comments that I believed added something to the discussion. Wherever appropriate, I slipped in a link back to my blog (an example is my comment on your post "Bringing Back Photographs"). And whatever else happens, don't get discouraged if things are slow.

Time to share my success story! I launched PrinzeCharming.com with no intent on followers or subscriptions. Since 11/12/12, I reached 10,000 views with over 3,500+ email subscribers. Why?

1. Quality over quantity content.

- Time is precious. Give your audience a reason why they should spend it on your blog, and not someone else. Give them quality content, instead of posting 100 poorly written posts by the first month. I have published less than 60 posts in less than 3 months. They come back because they are never bored with the content.

2. Attract, encourage, and engage discussion.

Attract - layout, design, sentence structure, visual presentation for them to come back for more. If your blog is too busy, your reader is probably too busy trying to figure out what to do next!

Encourage - encourage your audience to participate! Their opinions matter too! Unless you have a personal journal, fine. Just encourage more discussion.

Engage - Participate in many discussions with your followers. This will attract more followers because you care to talk to them.

2. Social networking
- Connect everything you can possible have to your blog.
- Facebook
- Twitter
- Google
- Linkedin
- Blog directories

Also, interact on OTHER blogs to attract more people to come to your blog. If you congratulate someone on their blog award, it shows you took the time out and congratulated them. It is a very heartfelt but very effective way to attract an audience.

3. Update - Tell your audience when your blogiversaries are! No, don't bother waiting for a whole year! Do one every month! Show progress, tell them what you accomplished from the first or second month, and then what you plan to do for the future of your blog. Give them value to add to your blog, and an incentive to come back for more. In my second blogiversary post, I showed them statistics:

Since Jan 12,

Final Monthly Word Count

In the month of November, I have written a total of 2,588 words.

In the month of December, I have written a total of 23,029 words.

In the current month of January, I have written a total of 11,937 words.

In two months, a total of 37,554 words melted your heart!

Monthly Post Averages

November (6 posts): 431.33 words per post

December (25 posts): 921.16 words per post.

January (12 posts): 994.75 words per post.

All Time Views:

The day of posting 1st month blogiversary, 4,205 views.

The minute I am writing this for the 2nd month, 7,760 views.

Note: I did mention earlier that I just reached 10,000 views. So, 2,240 views in the last two weeks!

As long as you enjoy what you are doing, just continue to express yourself. Never assume that you should write everyday. As you can see, my blog posts averaged out to almost 1,000 words each. Some articles extended from 1,000 to 2,500 words. Just show passion in what you write, and engage your audience to understand something that they also enjoy in a distinct context.

Open your eyes, open their eyes, and move forward.
Take care.
