Oh, SEO is for search engine..If you want to have a real traffic build a great content and share it with your friends or through social networking sites. In that way, you'll have subscribers or loyal readers and not just another blogger who just want to put their links on your site. :D

It takes a lot of patience, also. Months and years of continuous improvement. Steer clear of sites that promise you lots of hits as these kinds of hits are not "sticky" and can even hurt your ranking. Concentrate on providing quality and uniqueness. If your topic matter is already saturated (> 10 million hits on Google, for instance) then you're going to have a tougher time of it.
I'd also recommend that you get into video or other visual media for your blog as that kind of content has high potential for going viral.
