How to generate good website traffic

Darren Francis on Website, Technology, SEO, Traffic, Bloggers, Visibility

We all know, content is king!

I'm curious, what are your top 3 services that you use to generate traffic to your website/blog besides coming out with great content?

The most important thing is to get traffic from google,so read a lot about SEO on the internet and optimize your blog.
I'm getting a lot of traffic from Postzoom, Mybloglog, Theblogfrog, Friendfeed.

TheEmoLab & Renata: Thanks for the recommendations. Other than Friendfeed, I have not heard of the other services. I'm sure many of the bloggers out there will be thankful for this.

Any other recommendations people?

hey darren;
I dont have a specific good answer. N

The true answer (right now running on my head) is Either u have to invest in marketing and advertisements OR u shud have patience and time to create a really useful blog|site that can connect people of similar interests or atleast make them come back once in a while.

I m also still trying to discover the key to enormous traffic!!..Gud luck!

Facebook -> Most people just click the 'LIKE' button and hardly come back.

Twitter -> People these days rarely click other's links unless they think its worth clicking. They will instead just follow and leave it that way.

Bloggers|Similar Sites => We are more concerned abt voting, commenting & pushing our talks with more replies....Do people really go to my profile after that and click my blog post?? At most, people will just vote and follow...they wud rarely visit ur posts since they are more focused on their posts.

Google is the king! Run after it. Try getting on the first page of Google. U will win half the battle even before using all other services...

Just 2 cents from my experience...

Hi Nepsy, thanks for the response.

Yes, google is king. Do you know of other services (excluding the usual facebook and twitter).

I'm not sure how is it like for your website but FB alone generates around 500 visitors a month for me.

Hi Nepsy,
Thank you for your brief and prompt answer. :)
Yes, Google is the king!

Thanks for the replies.

@Anthony
Most of my traffic comes from google.

Yahoo gives probably 10% of what google brings to my website. Maybe its because most of the locals here uses google. When I was in Vietnam, I learnt that most of them use Yahoo. People use Baidu in China and are unable to view Youtube.

I guess it good to find out whats popular amongst your market segment to generate more traffic.

I really dont know other tools (which means i dont think its worth investing time on unknown or not so effective tools)
I used facebook & Twitter BUT 90% of my traffic comes from Google itself. 10%, i dont know may be facebook + Tweets + bloggers
I recently started on bloggers.com else Google was only my focus (and i quit facebook & tweeting)

Prad B ∙ 2 Feb, 11

U said 500/mnth from facebook...How much % does it make overall?

Darren Francis ∙ 2 Feb, 11

You should not quit other social networking sites. It has no negative effect. FB makes up less than 15% of visitors for me.

Faroz Id ∙ 6 Mar, 11

AirKuLet ∙ 6 Mar, 11

yousaytoo.com, linkreferral, facebook and the lowest ever traffic i got was here in this bloggers dot com, i don't know why hehehhe
