It has to be original... :)
I think it's important at least initially to have a specific subject. Then you get readers who share the same interest. After awhile you will probably end up blogging about other things too but by then your readers will have decided whether they like your writing or not & - I think - if they're still there they will be happy reading non subject specific posts. I've even published two books since blogging- one on the main subject of my blog (World of Warcraft) & one a sci fi book on parallel worlds- I'm hoping my followers will like both!!

wow... many would really enjoy reading your blog bravetank! You have an interesting subject... even Philippines gamer would read that :)
content should be common to all, should be easy to read or understand, latest news. unique.
I certainly agree with that :) your blog posts shouldnt be for your co-bloggers, but also for those who doesnt love reading much :)
In one word...paragraphs. Make sure you have paragraphs.
Deliver on what your headline promises.
Make sure your content is not written above the 7th grade reading level. That way, everyone will get it.
Make sure it answers a question of some sort. A question to which someone, somewhere in the world, wants to know the answer.
You can make it a Meme... that is a very popular way to bring others to your blog.
Meet other bloggers of the same topic/theme and invite them to co-host with you. Also offer a rotating co-host spot to participants, which keeps them coming back in the hopes of being chosen.
I think the content has to be interesting, well written, and targeted to a certain audience demographic. I think a touch of humour and light heartedness also helps. Sure, it can be common to all but be sure your blog is not too all over the place. Certain interests will attract specific readers.
Most of all be honest. Be yourself. Be original. Have fun with it.
