post your blog link on your FB or linkedin etc, where people will see that you have written it. I use google+ and share publicly, sometimes people randomly view it, plus i use google communities and share my content to the main stream where anyone who wants to read blogs can see it.
Just don't go spam crazy.

Yes social media sites really work and once you can gain visitors they will keep coming back if your blog has interesting posts or topics.
