That's a good question, I have done +1's for some of my own posts, sometimes that gets the ball rolling and someone will check it out and do the same. Also you may want to ask people in your G+ circles to check out a post and please +1 if they like it.

it gives you more Google plus followers and +1s and as you know that according to google's algorithm posts with more +1s or authors which are in many circles get higher rank in search results.
better search results mean overall development of your blog with more exposure to the public
