I guess the internet can be a good thing if not abused. As for educational purposes, it's always good to check your facts because the internet is such a big place with many contradicting statements and varying points of views etc.
Yes internet and technology definitely add value to education. Internet allows easy research and much more.
The Internet allows instructors to gain greater insight into the learning styles of their students. Teachers are able to better understand their students by connecting with them on a familiar platform.
I've been to college and university and I can honestly say that the internet has been pretty integral to my studies and by this, I do not mean copying all my answers from wikipedia. Using the internet, you can access a larger supply of books, journals and other sources of research that would otherwise be very difficult to find. There was also another great feature called "Blackboard" which allowed lecturers to upload class notes and articles of interest. This was great for catching up when you missed a lesson or wanting to refresh what you learned.
People definitely abuse it though. As I mentioned, people do copy straight from wikipedia or they find already written papers and so they could sail through education with pretty much little effort so in this sense, it could be helping to dumb people down.
Before, there was like a match box size full of information available to us, now with the Internet, it is like a city block size warehouse full , all available to us.
in todays world where we all depend on information and communication technologies, internet is a very important asset to any student. but it must be used wisely and with moderation. without it we cannot connect with the world and be upto date with the latest issues and trends. Technology affect you in the same way you use it.
