It is better to choose a domain name related to your website's topic

Well, I think it depends on your goals. If you want to have a website about a specific topic, a topic-related domain would be better for SEO reasons and so that potential visitors know what your site is about.
But when you want to create a website about you, a personal blog or something like this, you could use your name as domain name so people know the site is about you. I hope this is helpful for you.

Pros for using your name as the domain name:
1. Its unique.
2. Great for self-establishment
3. Branding yourself shouldn't be as hard as a company name like "Google". Think about that.
4. It shows that you own it and nobody else can have it.
5. Feels more relax that its about you, yourself and noone else.

Cons for using your name as the domain name.
1. You cannot sell this domain name to anyone else. Unless their name is exactly like yours.
2. If you're planning to have this domain name site as a business, be careful of yourself and public appearance. Just like any company, there are others out there willing to bring you down with bad feedbacks or any negativity from the society. Probably jealous of your awesome skills.
3. It does not explain to visitors what your website is about at first glance at the domain name. Unless its www.magic-louis.com or something like that, it may give them a hint.
4. It will be a lifetime commitment.

Hope this helps you mate. I've already made my commitment with mine.

It depends on your objectives. Do you want to blog about a specific subject? Do you want to blog about yourself/personal life? Do you have any experience in blogging?

Generally, people starting out in the blogging world begin with a domain name relating to the subject they are writing about. If you plan on being a journalist later on, then it would be a good idea to purchase a domain name with your own name so you can showcase your work.

I suggest you begin with a domain name relating to the subject you're writing about. It will bring you more readership, especially in the beginning of your writing career.

I would go for something that matches to what your blogging and sound catchy too, however if your showcasing your work then of course going for your own name if fine I'd say 8)

Just like others have rightly said, it all depends on what you wanted to achieve.

In most cases I have seen, it's not about your domain name, it's all about the contents of your website. With your name as a domain name, you stand a better chance to brand yourself and make yourself an expert or authority in what you do.

I have a few blogs and one with my name @ http://www.adeyemiadisa.com
