LEAVING COMMENTS ENCOURAGES BLOGGER

What is your opinion about leaving comments in a blog...?

I don't receive many comments on my blog, to be honest. I love the ones that are a genuine effort to engage. But spammy comments or generic and perfunctory comments (like "Nice post, thanks!") are kind of annoying since they're self-serving.

I comment on other blogs only when I feel I'm adding something worthwhile to that blog, perhaps expanding on a point that the blogger has mentioned but not gone into detail. I have one follower of my blog who leaves great one-liners that I think are an excellent addition.

When I started blogging, I never replied to comments unless I was asked a direct question, but now I reply to every comment, which I would recommend as a way of encouraging other commenters.

I respond to comments if the visitor asks a question or in reply to add to the comment. It's great when visitors leave comments that share their experiences or acknowledge that the information on my blog posts was appreciated and found to be informative.

I love comments. They make me feel like someone is actually out there, I'm not just talking to myself. Sometime, I don't really have much to say on a subject, so ill comment something short, just to say, hey, I was here, I read that, you're not alone.

Do onto others, they say.

I Too love comments .....Now u r not alone at blog world

I like to comment on blogs, discussions when there is something to say, and I try to make my posts interactive so that people will feel free to leave any comments. I think it's nice to know that someone has read your post and want to add something valuable to it.
Saying that, there are times when I've read some excellent posts but there is nothing to say, so I don't force myself to write a comment, but I do return for more.

I love to leave comments on my feeling about a particular post. Leaving comments really encourages and motivates the writer .

I agree ... genuine comments do encourage the blogger but the self-promotional ones are a big turn off !

BLOGIPEADIKA ∙ 29 weeks ago

Let them promote....atleast the visit ur blog...

Sheladyanne ∙ 29 weeks ago

I also agree with what the majority says. See when you visit a blog it wouldnt take that too much if you also leave a comment on it. It would be much better if you leave a comment that comes up to your heart... :)
as much as possible every blog i visit i do leave a comment.

I love hearty comments that aren't just the 'wow pretty outfit *blog link*'
as they clearly just want me to go to their site instead of showing they actually read what I wrote too. I confess I mostly leave my link too but I always read the text and try to comment on that, it's not that hard to leave a more genuine comment and it's really worth the effort :) It always makes my day to see new comments so I'm happy to give that great feeling to someone else too. We all work hard on our blogs right :)

Visiting a blog and leaving a comment is what blogging is all about, it is very very core of blogging life. Those who receive no comments at all tend to give up quickly, no matter how interesting their stuff may be. It is disheartening to receive nothing when you've put so much work into your presentation.

My blog has over 1000 posts and nearly 2000 comments on it right now, which makes it very alive and veryx enjoyable, not just for me but also for all other visitors. When they see that a blog is active, that it draws attention they are more likely to come back.

I must disagree with you on one point, though:

Let them promote....atleast the visit ur blog...

Sorry, but that is the death of a blog. Those who shameslessly drop their name, who post rubbish have indeed visited your blog, but they've taken no part in it. They've entered a standard text just to get a backlink which ups their ranking. The latest updates to Google and other search engines seek these backlinks out and downgrade your blog if they feel that the links are weak or disreputable. That's why we have spam filters, and that's why we should moderate every comment that comes it.

One last little comment, a pet peeve for me: when you have moderated (or open) comments on blogspot, or elsewhere, allow commenters to use all available commenting methods, don't disable the Name / URL function. Not everyone has a Google account or OpenID! You'll only lose out, they won't come back. And, since you moderate, it is easy enough to weed out those you don't want appearing on your blog.

I very much agree with this. I think limiting how people can comment only hurts. A lot of people are just browsing and stopping by quick and don't have the IDs a blog is looking for. Once I opened it up on my blog, comments came in more frequently. You can't assume people who visit your blog have an "X" account only. It's like the Facebook commenting system, not everyone has a Facebook.

I love comments but rarely get them back :/

BLOGIPEADIKA ∙ 29 weeks ago

everyone like that....

PixeledMe ∙ 29 weeks ago

if I read an article that is interesting, or teaches me something I will leave a comment, and if allowed I will leave my link. But I do not just comment to create backlinks, or spam sites.

BLOGIPEADIKA ∙ 28 weeks ago

Thats nice

Google's recent search algorithm says that commenting on each other blogs is a form of link exchange and link exchange is already levelized as SPAM .

BLOGIPEADIKA ∙ 28 weeks ago

Really....?

Catherine Holt ∙ 28 weeks ago
