There is not only google on net. There are some serious engines can give you traffic a lot. Like Yandex.ru from russia it is very popular in russia and chinese search engine baidu.com just on 5th rank after yahoo.com on alexa rank.
Jayde, Scrubtheweb, yahoo, alexa, bing, and many more. submitexpress.com could get through the listing.
It's not just about the submission, if your site doesn't have the quality to stay top, people won't get to see it..It would keep dropping in rankings. I think building backlinks should come first before thinking of dominating other search engines while waiting to top in Google or Yahoo.
Anyway, thanks for letting us know about a Russian and Chinese directory. Never knew them before.
Btw yandex also expanding now to several countries already. yet only around russia last 4 -5 years. It is getting big alternative for google as far i know. also some social networks by countries can be helpful like mail.ru and vkontakte.ru vk also has video sharing property if you are into movie blogs etc some blogs who sharing movies already using it i seen. In china also qq is dominating messenger application. some other countries has local famous sites as social network too. like for example hyves.nl in holland....other alternatives can be sites like urbandictionary and 9gag 4chan it needs sign up to enter entries this kind of sites but some of them choosing authors not approving every author and entries etc... also they are cool sites and lots of creative ideas you can find inside plus lots of fun stuff too.
Well, that's great. I checked out some of the sites but i couldn't understand the language. I feel it might be same for some of its visitors. I prefer to work for Google rankings but wouldn't ignore your sugestions.
In a nutshell, search engine submission would not convert much if we don't have the quality to rank high. I working on links for now before facing the search engines.
