I wanted a little help in the topic of image copyright. When you get pictures like from example Pinterest to post them in your blog, do you provide the link were the original picture came from or you just provide the link of Pinterest where you found the actual picture?
Also if you are doing a collage of pictures from the internet, how does copyright work in this situation?
Never like the idea of using other's images. I use my images off of photos my hubby makes so it saves me the hassle of looking and buying other images and it gives him free publicity. One thing for sure and it is best to buy your images through a micro stock site and never ever go out and copy other's work on the web to try to get something for free.
Even if you can get some free stuff on a site, how do you know for sure the original owner of the work will not try to sue you for using his or her work without the legal permission?
Better to buy and spend a few dollars here or there or invest in you some type of camera to make your own images one. If all else fails, you could always make images with your cellphone.
There are several sites which offer good photographic images for use free of charge or for a small fee.
Copyrighted images displayed on Pinterest are still copyright to their owner and not to Pinterest. Using this as a source when giving credit is fine, but not enough to satisfy the law. You need permission from the original photographer or copyright holder and you need to give credit, even when, with so many images being literally forced throughout the Internet, it is almost impossible to find the owner.
A good disclaimer on a web site is a must, something along the lines of how you have tried to find the owner but that hasn't always worked and anyone owning the copyright to an image should contact you direct to sort out any problems. I have used this effectively - only ever having had one photograph claimed in over two years.
If I haven't made the picture myself I always copy URL so when someone clicks on to that image it will go to image source, therefore they should receive the traffic they deserve through me. If I use my own images I water mark them.
Lately I've been experimenting with Image Colour Filtering. The images I used and posted on my blog are all either in the public domain or have been licensed to allow for non-commercial redistribution. I prefer using Wikipedia as a source for images due to the variety of content available, also all images clearly indicate its associated license.
