Exactly what is reddit?

Reddit is an online community where users vote on content that has been submitted by other users. There is a category for any and every thing you can think of.

June 23rd, 2005, reddit went live and shortly after that exploded.

Today, as of August 28th, 2012, reddit had 39,747,323 unique visitors last month, from 172 different countries, who viewed a total of 3,193,347,068 pages. THAT...my friends...is an explosion!

What does this mean to you?

Let me share a couple posts with you that exploded after I shared them on reddit:

Post: Free Ad Spot Give-a-way

I shared this post to reddit, within 10 minutes of me posting it on there, I had over 150 page views and 30 e-mails from individuals who wanted more information.

Post: Free $25.00 Gift Card

This post I shared also but I had over 500 page views in an hour.

With reddit you can build your social network and gain readers and followers all while creating back links.

I was just starting to use Reddit actually but after 2 posts it won't let me post anymore. I contacted them a few hours ago and haven't heard back yet. I knew a bit of what you said but great post!

Thanks! In each category, there are rules and FAQ's you should read before posting anything to it. You might have "overstepped" your boundaries with them. Unfortunately, they are a bit strict. Hope you get it everything worked out.

Finally got my reddit things straightened out. At least I think so, I was able to share something on there earlier. Now I just have to figure out how to really harness the site so it benefits me.

Yes, definitely. There are so many "sub reddits" or categories to post to. Remember to share other articles than your own on there also. Don't just self-promote. That goes for any social site. Good luck, I'm sure you'll figure it all out. Let me know if there's anything I can help with though.

I don't really use reddit as often as I did. I also use digg though, I use that a lot more often. I mostly just tweet and add my new posts to FB now.

Most social bookmarking sites like this don/t really work for me since I cater to a local audience and filipinos normally arent into digg or reddit. FB and twitter is a lot more popular here.

Reddit rules state that if you are posting more than about 10% stuff that could be viewed as self-promoting then in their eyes you're a spammer. Actually, though, the self-appointed Reddit "cops" will probably start downvoting you before you even get that far. I find this a little ironic since most of the posts on Reddit are such low quality, not commercial spam, per se, but just non-original, nonsensical, trivial stuff. It's entertainment!

I get more traffic with less hassle using StumbleUpon. They take just about anything I post and without all the attitude at Reddit. Plus, you always get a really great Stumble after you post.

How do you use reddit to your best advantage? I have tried to submit a few times (my posts and others) but sometimes i cant even find the link after i have submitted it. Any tips??
