I think you're right. If only everyone broadens his/her view of religion and not just limit it to some weird belief and an equally weird organization to associate with or be a member of; rather, that it is a commitment to doing good and sharing one's life with others, then there will be no wars, no quarrels, no poverty even, and this world will be a much better place to live.
It is because religion brings about the dedication and loyalty that leaders (with either good or bad intentions) need to motivate a populace into a course of action. Religion becomes even stronger of a motive when there is not much "national pride" in a country.
So you are saying that, essentially, religion (as it is presently practiced and adhered to), is man-devised and not really God-ordained, to which I agree if such is your opinion. People practice religion not really to honor and fear God (which they think they do) but to follow men(but are not aware that that is what they are actually doing). They have become like "sheep led to the slaughter" by following deceitful leaders. The "master" in the movie, Karate Kid, said it succinctly: "There are no bad students, only bad teachers."
Amen to your last statement Georix!! I totally agree. Religion at it's most simple base is a "personal" relationship with God, not by attending these churches that are bigger than football stadiums!! A church is NOT a big beautiful building that is built to seemingly say "look at me", rather the "people" who fill that building.
Back to your original question, I feel that there is no greater evil in the world than those people who take human life in the name of religion...they will pay the ultimate price someday...they too will have to stand before God and be judged!
