Bloggers Talks

Spam is created by the community

LA Green

I've been reading about a lot of people unhappy about the recent spam that has been in the talk section. Being a newby on this site, I have to say I have been seeing spam mail coming to me lately. I can't lie, I was banned from FB for 15 days for posting on other walls; I had a reason for that but that's a whole different thread. (see Banned from FB for 15 days) Anyways, all of us bloggers have one thing in common and that's views and likes. At some point, with everyone promoting there site, page, business etc, it was bound to happen; spam. So how do you stop it? Stop promoting and maybe the spammers might go away. There has been numerous of web pages that talk about free advertising; and this is one of them; this is how I found bloggers. I found this site through an article. Technically, I could have been another spammer but I decided on a different route.

Main thing we are kicking up, is how there used to be more topics on here worth joining. Sure, there was always spam, but it just keeps getting worse. And its only been a few months, but most of the people that I made friends with have left, because they believe there's nothing on the site worth their time.

When I first joined the site, I didn't spam, I just joined discussions, and it was the highest form of traffic I had. Of course, I've found out how to promote my blog better by now, but the discussions slacked off, and the spam became more prevalent. Now Bloggers doesn't even appear on my "traffic sources" stats at all, when just a few months ago, it was pulling in triple what the lowest thing on there pulls in now....

Fact is, the best way to promote a site, on a social website such as this, is to join in discussions, and write with the same quality you do on your blog. People will read those discussions entries, become intrigued, and want to read more. When someone posts a topic, "Hey come look at my site and I'll look at your site," I don't view their site, because why would I want to spend my time going to a website when I don't even know what's on it?

Anyways, we are just concerned, and are hoping to bring this website back, because there are some really amazing people here, that deserve to have their blogs seen. And we don't want new bloggers to come in thinking this is what blogging is all about, spam and exchanges....

A friend saw this network and knew i was a blogger so he referred me to the site! I loved the idea of joining a community of bloggers and i have found some great blogs here. Spam i guess is to be expected as like you say, people are eager to promote their blogs. I however only promote a blog that compliments mine in some way and a blog i think my readership will appreciate. If not i just add it to my blogroll or i follow it here. I like Nod's idea of of joining discussions and will give that a try!

I enjoy this site. I every now and I find some good talks and may add my two cents. I thought originally, Bloggers was like any other social site that had spammers. As a bloggers community, we can change what's going on but its up to the website to crack down on the spammers problem. I try not to post only visit my website post...unless it's a talk I started and its getting tons of traffic then you see me post, visit www.lagreenmarketing.com but I agree with what your saying. It's difficult on a site such as bloggers not to have a problem like this; but people should try a little harder.

Yes Patrick please join discussions. I look at like this, MS and FB are the site that should be left for discussion and possibly spam; those are major websites; anyone on FB should expect a few spammers because the whole world is on FB. As for Bloggers, there's a lot of people on here but not as many as your commercial networking sites. I like this site because its fresh. On MS and FB are both stale; besides, FB is starting to get old.
