Stamp Out Stigma

DirtyLittleWhispers on Depression, Stigma, Ignorance, Mental Health, Guest Post, Personal

On my blog at the moment I am discussing mental health, and the stigma on depression.
Have you any opinion as to why depression has such a bad stigma, or the ignorance towards it, or any of your personal stories to wish to add for guest posts?
Looking forward to hearing from you

I recently wrote about depression on my blog. I think that it still has a bad stigma attached to it and will take some time to get rid of this.

Once you hear the word 'mental illness' you tend to think of the worse possible scenario. People think that any minute you are going to 'flip' and either have a nervous breakdown or attack every person in sight.

I think the public needs much more education and facts about what depression is, the different types of depression etc etc.

There is also an issue where many people think they have depression when they don't and there are many people who have depression but are not aware of it.

Nice topic you started,
In Islamic teachings it says : Hope the good, it will be, But don’t harry it up.
Depression normally is created by the person himself as most of us don’t
really understand themselves properly or they don’t have enough self trust.

You are who and what you are, So, don’t give your self more than that !
if you are satisfied with that, you will be good..

Definitely check out Rumpunch's blog post he put up, its a great opinion, only thing I can do is agree with him.

Depression is such an overused term, it has a meaning besides the 'clinical term' so its easy to get confused. Not all depression is a chemical imbalance, some people are just sad or are overloaded, and the best medicine is to get over it. But that being said, that treatment won't work for everyone. Whether its a chemical imbalance, or its just flat out overwhelming.

In the end, I could probably guest post on depression, I know such an article wouldn't fit on my own blog. I have a teenage stepdaughter who's having a bout with it, and I've been caught in its throng many times due to failings in life.
