There is a growing trend among those who wear the name Christian who do not maintain a biblical worldview. My goal in this blog is to address that issue and explain why it is important to maintain such a worldview if you are a Christian. If you are not a Christian, I do not expect you to attempt to maintain such a worldview.
The name Christian literally means "little Christ". It was given to those who believed in Christ in order to mock them. These people were so radically different from the other people in the world that they wore this name, not by their own profession, but because others gave it to them. Given the origins of the name Christian, if you claim to be one, you should be different from the world around you.
Having a biblical worldview changes the way you view everything. Politics, marriage, family, investments, employment, and anything you can think of takes on a new meaning. You will elect officials who will stand for the laws as they are written. You will marry someone of the opposite sex and stay married to them for life. You will invest your money in businesses that reflect your worldview. You will work for businesses that support your worldview. Everything in your life is to be different.
I am not advocating boycotts nor am I advocating rebelling against leaders. A biblical worldview means that we understand that people are changed from the inside out. For someone to change, Jesus must do the changing. For you or anyone to maintain a biblical worldview it is critical to remember that fact. As Casting Crowns sings, "God's gotta change her heart before He changes her shirt."
I guess in a way I am simply disappointed. I am disappointed that those who wear the name of Jesus do not act like Him. How do we do this? It is simple. We follow the Bible. Now I know some will quote obscure verses and take them out of context, but if we lived out the Bible the way it is intended for us to do so the world would know that we were Christians. They would give us the name. We would not have to proclaim it to others because they would know by our lifestyle.
To live what the Bible teaches means that you take it at its word. Peter wrote that Scripture is not subject to our interpretation. That means that as we read Scripture and take it at face value in the context in which it was intended, we all come to the same understanding. Maintaining a biblical worldview is not out of our reach if we will just live it.
