How can we as an individual do to put smiles on the faces of innocent men, women and children who are in need?

That's a great question!
To make our lives better in all countries of the world requires above everything else (like knowledge and understanding) ... the will to want to make our world a better place for everyone.
Until all countries of the world exercise their will to do what is morally right and in the interests of everyone then the world will continue to progress and develop slower than it should.
The developed countries should be leading by example ... leading selflessly and not always selfishly to the benefit of the privileged few.
On a personal level, to make life better for all, starts with us, and we should be the change that we wish to see in the world as Gandhi once said; and live simply so that others may simply live ... and know that enough will always be enough.
