Do you feel that Valentine's day is really a true reflection of the love people feel for each other or is it another gift exchange day where people feel obligated to buy a gift.

I have heard many perspectives this week, just trying to get feedback on how people feel.
It's not really a reflection of love- any day can be a reflection of love so it doesn't need a special day- it just means all the retailers can make some money in one of their otherwise quiet periods.
It is highly commercialized you are right, it sort of defeats the purpose of love if we would confine it to Valentine's day
I am with Zotwot on this. I had probably declare the day 'I' find True love as my Valentine's day! I don't understand why this started in the first place? Because Saint Valentine wrote a letter addressed 'From your Valentine' on the day he was executed? or cos he married off soldiers who were forbidden from marrying? In it's truest form, St. Valentine wanted the world to remember the 'Love of God and remain faithful Christians', when he made those hearts. So we all should probably be visiting churches and lighting candles, declaring our Love for God, on this day :)
Agree it is amazing how this has changed over the years and transformed into what we know as Valentine's day,
Yeah am a true believer, its a lovey day and a time to show love to our friend, family and loved ones too,try to keep your loved ones close to you because they wouldn't live twice
I hate Valentine's day but that's mainly because I don't have a romantic bone in my body it's just not my thing.
For me, every day is a Valentine's Day. Therefore, I do believe in it. While it's nice to send out gifts and chocolates to our loved ones, it's the little details that must be remembered, such as being thankful because they are a part of our lives. :)
I'm not really. I don't think there has to be a certain day where people are meant to show their love towards each other. If you truly love someone , in my opinion there should not be a registered date for expressing that love, but simply like any normal day :) Plus, Valentines day now has a more commercial view - toy stores , jewellery shops and all those gift shops receive so much money on this day of love, many women simply wait for this day to come, in advance choosing a new outfit and waiting for her loved one to buy her a fantastic present....yet love should not really be about what one has to offer ,its more about accepting what one already has and just spending that day like any other day, perhaps with a little more passion at home :)
Not really. My Love lives in different city and we haven't celebrated even a single Valentine together in 8 years. But, actually we don't even need this day. Any day on which we express our Love, cry because we are missing each other or text each other saying loving words, or dedicate a song (only he sings!!) are all "Valentine's day" for me.(touchwood)
It is whatever you decide it to be. You can have Valentine's Day just about every day of the year. For me it is a very romantic day and I like to celebrate and decorate our house, do some little surprises. But everyone is different, some people like it, some hate it.
