What is the hardest part about blogging for you?

PixeledMe

Whenever I start a brand new blog, the hardest challenge for me is to stay self motivated and encouraged, because it can be a struggle to write when you are receiving very little traffic at the beginning.

The second hardest part about blogging that I find once I achieve my goal of attracting a large enough audience is the ability to sustain my visitors while still actively trying to increase my daily pageviews, visitors, and alexa ranking. I always strive to write great content and please my readers.

What is the hardest part about blogging for you?

to bring visitors

I like your site :) What I would highly recommend since it seems like you are really knowledgeable on the topic of hacking...I would post video tutorials on each hacking trick on Youtube and then post the link to your written version in the description. That will get you a lot more traffic :)

Plus you would be gaining subscribers through Youtube, and revenue through adsense by monetizing your videos!

Finding the time to write posts. I have a lot of creative ideas for features. It's just having the time to sit and write them all.

For me, I always make sure to have my laptop with me wherever I go whether to a coffee shop, library, restaurant, or a friend or families house. Because when I do have a little bit of free time, I already have my laptop with me and am able to write :)

Good point. I also take my laptop with me when traveling by train or plane. Lots of free time then to write!

I guess there are various things for me:

Writing content that people may be interested in.
Writing in a way that is understandable and interactive.
Hoping that people will continue to return to read more.

I admire those that write a number of times a week because blogging seems easy but it's still hard work (or maybe I find it difficult at times)

PixeledMe ∙ 25 weeks ago

From what I can see by how many followers you have, how many views you get on each post just from bloggers, and see as though you have over 97 backlinks, I would say you have content that people are genuinely interested in reading. If you get stuck and can't think of anything to write about, just google search a few things that you are interested in and see if there is anything worth writing about.

If you write content that is useful, or interesting people will always come back.

I would classify blogging as a difficult / long term commitment. Many people think that just because they start a blog, they are guaranteed traffic, but that is simply not the case. It takes a lot of hard work, and self motivation to take a blog from zero to thousands of visitors.

Hard work and perseverance pays off sooner or later, keep up the good work :)

Remembering the 'great topics' I forget after I say, 'Oh man, that would make a great post!'

As far as anything else, it all comes down to just topics I want to write about passionately. I find it too easy to write about the 'status update' form of blog, where I want to write pieces that are more timeless, and can relate to any time.

I always have my laptop with me wherever I go just in case I have some free time, I can just sit down whether in a coffee shop, cafe, or restaurant and start writing my next post.

Timeless posts are always the best as trending topics are likely to give you instant traffic, that lasts for a day...maybe two days, but timeless posts sustain traffic or at least have the ability to sustain traffic for a long time. I admire your commitment to writing about things that can be of benefit to others.

i think the hardest part about blogging is to keep updating your blog and bringing visitors

PixeledMe ∙ 25 weeks ago

Valid point. It can become difficult to write when you know there is no one reading, but at the same time no one will read if there is no content. I always worry about losing the traffic that I have, and on days that traffic is slow, I panic and try to figure out why. But its just natural to have high traffic days and low traffic days.

I think there's a point where it gets hard to be consistent - trying not to get bored with your own writing and blogging. If you get bored, my advice would be to do something different, or write differently to change things up a little. If you're getting bored writing it, people will get bored reading it.

For me the problem is definitely writing consistently - when I began this blog though, I wrote 20 posts in advance (learning from experience of getting lazy too easily) and I'm slowly adding to that list as I publish more drafts on my blog. That way, if I take a few days/weeks off writing, I can still post something and keep my blog up to date by queuing posts. :)

Great strategy :) I also use that strategy when starting new blogs. It is a great way to show people you have content, therefore creating a following.

Balancing my time between blogging, work and personal time. As you all know blogging isn't merely just writing something up, for me, it's planning what I'm blogging about, taking the relevant pictures, editing, writing then posting. I have a full time job, and am a wife with household duties to take care of too. This is my biggest struggle, finding the perfect balance.

PixeledMe ∙ 25 weeks ago

Balancing time with work and personal life is the hardest thing about blogging. My friends know that when I am starting a new blog they will not be seeing much of me for a while due to hours of marketing, writing, researching etc. Its really difficult because maintaining a blog is actually a full time job, especially for those that want to turn it into a living. So I understand completely that finding that balance is really important but rather difficult.

for me hardest part is about myself.
n my theme

i switched to nearly 10-13 themes for my blog( i had used paid n free themes)

i wanna say some thing i m not still satisfied with my theme
n its sidebar

PixeledMe ∙ 25 weeks ago

Before I start a new blog, I first figure out my audience, the name and decide if it is going to be easy to brand, and then envision mentally and on paper how I would like my website to look and with what features. This way I know what I am looking for so that I am not switching themes. Then I go to ThemeForest.net and browse through hundreds, and hundreds of different themes. I bookmark my top 50, then narrow it down myself to top 20, and then 10. Once I am down to top 5 I ask a few people what they think and which ones they like. Then I decide based on which one best matches what I envisioned :)

Being happy with your theme is very important as you want to be proud to show it off to your friends and family, but most importantly you want it to be easy to navigate and operate for your readers.

the hardest part of me should be coining my content...i have the thoughts in my head but putting it in words is another ballgame entirely

PixeledMe ∙ 25 weeks ago

I read through your article about "Pedicure at home?", and I learned a lot that I had never known before. I wouldn't stress out to much over the writing process, I read through your article pretty easily and at the end of the day if your readers are able to learn something, that is what really matters. Great blog, keep up the great work :)

DeeSWhite ∙ 25 weeks ago

I'm with Phil. Finding the time to write posts is hard for me. Especially since I have 10 main blogs.

@Manpreet. I have never been that organized. Even when I only had 1 blog. Posts in advance? What is that you speak of? LOL.

That is great advice, but doesn't work for a non-linear person like me...but I will keep trying.

What I have found is that when I do write...even if it is not consistent, as long as it has substance. People will read and bookmark and follow. I have blogs that I have not written in for three years that I have migrated to Wordpress that still gains followers. So I added the RSS feed for the new location to the old blog.

Dee - ten blogs? No wonder you have no time! :-)

10 blogs? I commend you on your bravery to take the blogging industry by storm lol :) My first blog that I started included 10 categories including pets, health, sports, entertainment, politics, science, finance, technology, and a couple more that I cannot think of right now. My goal was to publish 10 articles a day, so I asked a friend of mine and two family member that were knowledgeable on the topics of sports, pets and health to write 1 article a piece everyday...they agreed...my friend was interested to build his writing portfolio, and the one who wrote on pets was an author, and the other family member was a personal trainer / nutritionist. The remaining topics I covered...it was crazy. But I pulled it off. Two weeks I managed to publish 140 articles that were very well written and took nearly 8 hours of my day, everyday to research, write, edit and publish all 10 articles.

It was now time to find help. Because I had a wide range of categories to choose from, active social networking groups like Twitter, Facebook etc, and all of the articles could easily be found through search engines due to proper optimization and promotion, not to mention the site contained over 140 articles it was not very difficult to find interested writers looking for a well established place to write and build their portfolios. I posted a few ads on Craigslist, and day after day I received dozens of emails. I had found my 6 writers to cover the remaining topics, so that I could just write on politics.

This of course only lasted about 3 months, because writers that are working for free only to build their portfolio are not very reliable lol.So 3 months came, over 1680 articles had been published, traffic was huge, the site was everywhere, and even though it was later sold, I quickly found a greater appreciation for bloggers. Since then I have launched 4 other blogs, 1 of which I run full time, and the others are updated by friends and family members of mine. No more 10 articles a day though lol.

I just wanted to say all of that to let you know that although finding time to keep up with the daily, weekly, monthly job of updating your blog, it can be done :) However, I didn't have much of a social life LOL.
