Bloggers Talks

What is wrong with you people here on Bloggers?

My Travel Affairs

What is wrong with you people? Here on Bloggers, community which I have till now found genuine, nice and very supportive.

I have got a private message from Indigg http://www.indigg.com
That he likes my site and that there is immense potential in it, that he invites me to publish articles on indigg.com and they will promote my site.

Than he said he wrote an Alexa review of my blog and that he would appreciate if I would wrote one for indigg.com

I have followed links and indeed he wrote a good review for my website, I have checked the page he mentioned., I was not familiar with Alexa reviews before.

And started to discuss what is this website about, why it is better that stumble.com or digg.com or any other of those kinds? That I didn't notice much traffic from those sources and why indigg is better?

Instead of answer, if you offer something to people you should be prepared for discussion I think. He asked for Alexa review again, I said that first I would like to understand about his site etc etc

The next message I have got it was that he removed his review from Alexa site!

No answer to my question.....why people are so ungenuine?
I think that if you are looking to gain something, link exchange, Alexa review or anything else you should be honest about it.

Not pretending you like my page and later removing your review only because I didnt write one straight away for you.
And another question how can I write the review if I dont know what the website is about?!

Just for the record, It is not about Alexa review, I dont care, untill yesterday I didnt know they exist and that they are important, but why such behave?

Marysia

PS. I hope that now he wont write a bad review instead, because I have published this thread. But I think that you should have enough courage to support your actions.

This community is really becoming just spam. Its hard to find any good conversations in Talks that isn't, "How about an exchange of some kind." Its really gone down hill, in the past few months, and the traffic I used to get from joining talks and such has almost gone completely away. I've had to unfollow a few people because they would constantly spam my inbox here with, "Hi, lets exchange something."

I have met a good amount of amazing people on here, and those friendships have moved on to FaceBook, or other social sites. But I haven't chatted on here in a awhile with anyone worth chatting with. I can see why so many of the bloggers I respect are going away from this site.... If something's not done about it soon, this site will just fall into a spam only website that will be forgotten by the respectable people of the community.

Rumpunch Drunk ∙ 20 weeks ago

A Brainless Nod, you have made some very valid comments here. Let us all start to try to get discussions going and if we like what we are hearing, let us go to the bloggers profile or blog to find out more about them. :)

Anyone got a prediction to what's gonna happen to Bloggers.com in 2013? Hehe

My Travel Affairs ∙ 20 weeks ago

Boys you both are very right, I come to Bloggers every single day but for past few weeks I almost do not participate in Talks, I have started few threads asking about opinions and help with my website almost no answer except those few who I really got quiet friendly. And I want to underline I really appreciate them :)
One more time thanks for all the opinions! They were very helpful!

I though that Bloggers is all about support, help, opinions, learning sth new.
I have to be honest that I ask my friends to follow me on Facebook and Twitter, but genuinely offer everything they need in return and I dont make any problems if someone who is not interested, I do not tai my follow or like back ha ha ha

But indeed, can we have some better, more interesting Talks here?

Abdul Qoyyuum ∙ 20 weeks ago

Basic mindset for Bloggers at a social network:

- Spread more links
- Get more traffic
- Ask people to like, subscribe, tweet, follow, circle social networks (in a spam-like way).
- Get even more traffic
- Rinse and repeat

Rarely they would think about doing any of the White Hat methods to getting organic traffic. This includes getting INVOLVED in a social network. So how to get more interesting Talks here if most Bloggers think about traffic?

BakingInATornado ∙ 20 weeks ago

Too bad someone from Bloggers doesn't read these talks written by bloggers who want to use this site the way it was intended, but are overwhelmed with those intent on using it for spamming.

My Travel Affairs ∙ 20 weeks ago

Too bad indeed....

KalamityJane ∙ 18 weeks ago

I'm still pretty new to this site, but I guess I figured that Bloggers monitored the talks.
Also, I love your name. Super cute!

Shahzad Ashraf ∙ 20 weeks ago

Blogging is a great tool to express your views to the world BUT just a "few cents" that they will earn from Advertising has changed EXPRESSING to FORCING your views to the world, and by Human nature anything forced is not taken well.

Role of Admin is very important in platforms where Bloggers participate. At Bloggers.com Admin activity is limited only to selecting the featured Bloggers of the day (that also might be automated).

Stop Spamming ..... Offer Good Content and I will visit your site !!!

You, sir, can have my +1 and like.

Some terrific opinions here and you all have my respect. I joined this site as a newbie blogger and made some good connections and met some really nice bloggers. I too am getting spammed now a lot with those who just have money interests in minds or non-stop regquest to follow their SEO blog and such. Sometimes it does get annoying but you just have to week out the undesireables. There are still many great bloggers here.

Matt Morales ∙ 20 weeks ago

That's why I stop inviting people to like or follow my blog unless they really like it. tsk..

I'd rather have a 5 followers who cares about my write ups than 100s who doesn't..anyway, let's just celebrate a happy new year ahead..hehehe :D

My Travel Affairs ∙ 19 weeks ago

Happy New Year from Morocco! A good year is awaiting us so lets enjoy it :)

this thread is so welcoming as spam base of users is increasing every day here

As Bloggers has become more popular, see alexa.com as indicator, There is always a possibility to attract more spam users or robots. By getting reviews and backlinks, they divert traffic from your site to theirs. In other word, Stealing. Each person can control their own blogs and friends and followers. Bloggers.com was created so we can help each other on topics such how to blog, host sites, content and read blogs from different sites. In my case, my attention has been focus on Google+ and their community groups which at the moment it is fun and we share.

A Brainless Nod ∙ 20 weeks ago

When I first joined this site, my main intent to joining talks (and my idea of promotion) was to be open and honest and state my opinions. People would read my opinions and my quality answers to questions, and then it would bring traffic back to my site. That is what draws me to sites from social networks, such as Bloggers.

I read someone's topic or response on here and think, "Wow, I want to read more by that person," and go to their website.

I cant agree more with Mr.Ashraf...
We are Bloggers...more than that we are Humans..keep aside all commercial aspects.. respect each one as an individual..

The Page ranks, Alexa...Dyslexial ranks..are making it a competition ...

Rumpunch Drunk ∙ 20 weeks ago

Many of us seem to be of the same mind here. I agree with many of the points raised.

I personally follow blogs because I enjoy their content. I only do valid comments after I've read the posts and don't expect someone to comment on my blog just because I commented on theirs. If you choose to comment/follow on my blog, let it be because they did it with a clear conscious, not for gain.

Although I would love for more people to follow me, I only want genuine people interested in my blog. I rarely look at my stats because I don't want to get into the numbers game, or the quality of content may suffer. Can't sell my soul.

I'm trying to start the New Year here with an attitude to encourage everyone to have valid discussions here, help someone without asking for nothing in return. Let's see if we can all participate and do this.

TheMardiGrasGirl ∙ 20 weeks ago

I agree. The reciprocity of helping others without looking as to what you gain will reward you with quality visitors. I've gotten almost all of the followers to my blog from interacting with members on this site. I hope enough of us here can continue to keep this a fun and effective venue.

Also by posting on Bloggers you get better SE rankings. I've seen some of my posts here indexed on Google. So keep that in mind the more you give here, the more you get!

My Travel Affairs ∙ 19 weeks ago

I as well reach out to my followers for support, I leave comments on people blogs, and Im very happy when little percentage of those come back to my blog and maybe interact with me, or follow my blog between social media, but I'm not getting upset when someone doesn't.
Like many of us said here......it is not the way it works, or just it shouldn't be the way. I struggle with my blog as well, but Im not getting upset when someone doesn't follow me or write me a review. But I always take time in the contact with people here and around the net.

Moonomo ∙ 20 weeks ago

Honestly, you should not have point out a name!! Although the things you said are happening (not only here but everywhere) people are fishing for follows/vote/friends etc and many are not keeping their promises. You should always keep in mind that there are fake people online!

And that, Internet lately holding the nature of the real world since a big number of people now been online! Can you trust everyone from your city or country that they would do what they said?

While your concern are valid, I would suggest to not point out names but discuss the issue so discussion would be even better!

My Travel Affairs ∙ 19 weeks ago

Moonomo You are right, I should not give an exact name but I simply wanted this man to understand his mistakes and wrong approach....in the conversation with me he just said, thank you, Im removing the review BYE!

Teddy ∙ 20 weeks ago

Wuuuuhuuuuu Damn!!! Now this is what I'm talking about!!!!! You know how you feel when watching a movie and the bad guy gets his just dues, that fire that builds up against the injustice that is done and the hero's come to their aid, THAT IS HOW I FEEL right now. You guys are my Hero's. Sometimes lessons are painful, but if painful, then not soon forgotten.
GO HERO'S

My Travel Affairs ∙ 19 weeks ago

Teddy we are no hero, we are just people who found to be annoyed and upset by the same :)

Teddy ∙ 20 weeks ago

I think I will build me a Hero's list on my blog sometime just to honor those of you who have no fear to withstand the injustices that others must deal with.
Yes, I think I will.

Patrick ∙ 20 weeks ago

Am relatively new to the bloggers network and I like the idea of sharing links, but like Rumpunch Drunk, I would only want to share links with a blogger i believe my readers would appreciate. I love to keep my blog content consistent so as not to confuse my readers. If i land on a blog that i like but can't add directly to my blog, I just add it to my blogroll or i follow it here on bloggers.

My Travel Affairs ∙ 19 weeks ago

Patrick I have nothing against exchanging links, it is a help we can offer each other, but that shouldn't be approached the way indigg did it. I think you should make an effort and invest time in getting links and followers instead of simply removing your good intention as soon person who you approach will have questions or will be willing to challenge you a bit.

Denna ∙ 19 weeks ago

The thing is that many people only care for there own blogs and do not want to do something for others out of the kindness of there hearts.

I personally get itchy if people tell me to follow their blog in exchange they would follow mine. I am completely honest in the fact that I only follow blogs that I read and comment on. Why should I want somebody to follow my blog when they will never read it, just so i can boast about my many followers? I rather would have less that read my blog daily then many that do not even know what my blog is about.

It is like today when somebody messaged me with "I'm your newest follower on your blog, waiting for you to follow mine"
That is a command, I am waiting till you do the same...Not a question if I would look at there blog but it is simply telling me that I need to follow that blog. It directly made me dislike that person...

To make a long story shorter. There are two kinds of bloggers.
People who will be kind to you for wanting something from you.
And people who really mean there kind acts.

My Travel Affairs ∙ 18 weeks ago

Denna you are very right on that, and this happened a lot to me before but this situation was just the worst of all, it kind of finished my patience.....

KalamityJane ∙ 18 weeks ago

I know how you feel. I'm a bblogger, so I'm only offering something interesting to a very specific niche. Yet still I get people with tech blogs or business/marketing blogs who follow me then demand I follow them. It's very frustrating.

Phil Holtberg ∙ 18 weeks ago

I too am getting spammed now a lot with those who just have money interests in minds or non-stop regquest to follow their SEO blog and such. There are still many great bloggers here that have helped me out and I try to read and follow when I have time. I already have a job so I'm not in this for money!

Malds ∙ 18 weeks ago

hmmm I agree with all the points raised here. I'm a hubber (although I dont really write at hubpages that much anymore since I started my own blog) and I loved the community there and the support that they gave newbies. So I was expecting something similar here when I joined bloggers.

Sadly though most bloggers here are only here to promote their blog. the "talks" don't really have that much useful stuff and the little nuggets of gold here require a lot of sifting through. This makes me think that maybe bloggers should just remove talks and start a bloggers forum that's better regulated (and much much easier to navigate).

My Travel Affairs ∙ 18 weeks ago

I dont know how exactly they should approach this subject bus something supposed to be done.

Martha Preston ∙ 18 weeks ago

sometimes there is a lot of spam but every once in a while if weed the trash you can find geniune people

My Travel Affairs ∙ 18 weeks ago

You are right Martha, but time is precious to me, it would be so much more better if those pearls wouldnt be hidden in so much ash :)

Mathew ∙ 18 weeks ago

G'day My Travel Affairs

I'm a new kid on the block so to speak so this is good to know.

People will be people, I agree with Phil that we just need to weed out the undesirables & don't allow these people to affect us so undesirably & ruin it for us genuine ones.

Love
Mathew

My Travel Affairs ∙ 18 weeks ago

Hello Mathew, I do agree with you, but I guess after months on this page and behave of this man I have just broke up my nerves :)

Aryana Tan ∙ 18 weeks ago

I practically read everything in this post from the first reply to the last one. It gave me a new face of blogging. I started blogging to keep me sane. I don't talk much in the real life and this is another way for me to express myself.

anyway I guess it's not just in this site where in there are people like that, when I search on the best sites to blog for free on google the first thing that I read is all about how to make money on the blog and the best offer of this and that to make that happen so I guess that plays a part on the mindset of those who blog.

as for me I'm interested on personal blogs, literature or lifestyle blogs and like the others I don't like to get messages of follow me and I will follow you kind of thing.

KalamityJane ∙ 18 weeks ago

I think that trying to make money with your blog is fine; personally I would love to make money with mine. However, I want to make money because I have a good blog and loyal followers who actually care about the subject matter of my blog. And that takes patience and skill, not spamming anyone and everyone who blogs anywhere.
But I also blog because I enjoy it. I'm not making any money with my blog currently, and it brings me a great deal of pride and happiness to know that I am helping people, even if it's in a silly (slightly vain) way.

My Travel Affairs ∙ 18 weeks ago

Jane I never sai that making money with your blog is a bad thing, I wish that to everyone who have a blog :) I'm simply asking for a different approach!

Catherine Holt ∙ 18 weeks ago

Wow - that has taken a lot of reading!!!

I have been getting private messages like that too...except mine have been....your site is good....exchange something for me and then I will do for you!! I have not been responding to these as its an outright..."do something for me" request. I have thought to myself...if you like my site why havnt you followed me??

I have now added subscriptions onto my blog and when someone subscribes i get really excited....i know they have subscribed because they really like what they see and not because they are going to get something in return...other than my free e-book....lol. But still...they subscribe because they want to.

I guess there is always going to be spam....put your filter goggles on when you sign in ;0)

My Travel Affairs ∙ 18 weeks ago

Catherine I do not have subscribe function on my blog but I'm happy with every message, comment or like I get.
And you are right, if you like me that follow me, not like I will follow if you follow me....
