What's the best way of promoting a blog?

Lustyfashion on Mareketing, Guest Posting, Seo, Sem, Bookmarking

Hello There,
I am neither a seasoned SEO nor a marketing guru but I felt that visual bookmarking works better than article promotion. I'd like to know how you are promoting your blog and if there is any effective way of grabbing on the reader's attention.
I am using simple three ways to drive traffic to my website:
Content posting on web 2.0 websites
visual and social bookmarking
guest posting
I don't like resorting on black or gray hat search engine optimization, I spend my free time in writing articles either for the directories or journals and link the articles with the main page of my blog. Let me know if any of you have broad knowledge on the aspect of viral marketing, SEM, and SEO.
Thanks

Hi There!

I have a few word of advice for you that can help you with your blog promotion. SEO is great, but it can be very time consuming.

As far as article directories (I think that's what your talking about) they are not as effective as they once was.

I'm not saying that you can't get traffic from them, but it should be on the bottom of your traffic list.

I would suggest you to focus on guest posting, video marketing, forums, and blog communities (like this one). Also let me add content syndication is great too.

Now here is why I made those suggestions.

***Guest Posting***
Guest posting is kind of like knocking 2 birds out with 1 stone. Because you can get traffic back to your side with a backlink. You are able to send the traffic to any page you'd like, such as a squeeze page to collect emails for future contacts or a product sales funnel.

***Video Promotion***
Now, using video to drive traffic back to your site is a must! Well not really : ) but it's wise to make use of it, you know. It's 2013!

Who do you know that does not watch youtube and vimeo videos? lol...
If your not shy, talk in front of your cam to have eye contact with your viewers.

It converts better because your viewers are able to see you face to face. Instead of using text, speak about your topics and end it with a strong call to action.

How about recording reviews of products, comparing products, stirring up some controversy by sharing why product "A" is better than product "B", create slideshows of your products, giving advice on the best type of fabric to wear during specific seasons (Hope that last one makes sense. I'm not a fashion expert like yourself lol)

***Forum Promotion***
Ok, since your in the fashion market where the majority of fashion experts are women, position yourself where you audience is at. You can do a Google search for fashion forums. For example this is what I did:

1. Go to Google.com
2. type in search bar: "fashion+forum" (without quotes)
3. I found this one for you: http://ultrastyle.com/forum/ (I'm not affiliate nor do I know the owner of this forum)
4. When searching for forums check to make sure it's active with users by looking for the latest post dates for relevancy.

***Blog Communities***
Well your already using this platform, but there are others out there for you to connect with also. For instance:

1. Blog Engage.com
2. Blogorama.com
3. Justretweet.com
4. Blokube.com

To name a few...

***Content Syndication***
Since you spend you free time writing content, you should know this one out the park.

When you write an article, what you should do is convert it to other document. Then load them to it respect site. Ok, example:

After writing your article and uploading it to your website, convert it to a pdf file. Then you will need to submit the PDF article to the top document sharing sites. Like docstoc.com, 4shared.com, and scribd.com.

Ok now, convert the same article into a powerpoint presentation by copy and pasting the text to powerpoint. Make it look all fashionable and stuff! Ok now, upload it to slidesharing sites like: slideshare.net, slideserve.com, and slideboom.com

Now as you can see I got a little over excite about the topic lol

Overall I hope this helps you and sparks some ideas.

Remember to take action or else you will not see results. Be consistent and overtime you will notice your traffic increasing bit by bit. I know this is kind of a lot. Do not try and do this all at once, but instead focus (keyword) on one strategy at a time.

Now get busy : )

Oh yeah I meant to add...You could buy traffic like Google adwords or bing / yahoo ads.

The traffic will come quick but paid traffic can be expensive in the beginning.
That's because of testing and etc.

Where as free traffic has no charge, except your time.

Wow.. Marc thats an awesome talk there! Very informative. I wish to use video but I am a shy type person. And thanks for the idea about converting article and posting it to document sharing host.

Hi

It took me a little while to warm up in front of the camera : )
My Bloopper reel was like an hour long lol

...And yes converting your articles to other formats pays off. Think about how much traffic we would be missing out on without completing this little tactic lol

Glad it helped!

Hey Marc,
Thank you for contributing in this post. I like the idea of guest posting and converting articles into different formats for the submission. It seems you've got a lot of experience in blogging and marketing. I am trying linkwheel this time, I think it will work out for me. Are you using any software for converting articles into pdf and other formats? I have a full blog to covert, is there any way to covert the entire content instead of working on each and every article?
Many thanks for sharing valuable information with us.

Note: I have noticed that visual bookmarking is also playing a vital role in boosting my alexa rank and traffic. I hope if I do it more seriously it is gonna do wonders!! I will use tubemogul for video promotion as it distributes the video on all visual media channels:)

Hey There LustyFashion,

It's interesting that you mentioned using a linkwheel lol I was going t mention my experience with using a linkwheel, but it would of been totally irrelevant to helping you.

Here's Why...

My experience with using a linkwheel was not so good lol

Mind you, this is my experience with using linkwheels.

You see, I haven't used a linkwheel since early 2011.

But when I did set one up to rank a niche site that I have, Google threw it in their "sandbox". I was ranking well, until I engineered my linkwheel.

My findings is that I built my links WAY too fast. I had them connect correctly, though.

A linkwheel will work, It's that you have to be very careful of how fast you build your links. Google is very sensitive and can detect when unnatural links are being built.

Please understand that I'm not telling you not to use a link wheel.

But...

Do your research on them and find out the changes that Google has made to their algorithm that could possibly effect your websites rank.

As far as a PDF convert goes, I've used this one plenty of times: http://www.freepdfconvert.com/

The directions are straight forward.

Or if you are using microsoft word you can simply save your post as a .pdf to the folder of your choice...

I don't know how to convert articles to PDF in bulk. But that would be something good to find out. If I happen to find one I will let you know, cool?

Yes, if visual bookmarking is working for you then scale it up!!! : ) to get better more effective results.

I'm glad I was able to help you out...

Thanks for sharing nice tips on marketing here. I hope these tips will also help others who are reading this post. I heard a lot of bad things about linkwheel but don't know as why it is considered a black hat technique. I am not adding my link in an unnatural way instead I am posting original article and insert the relevant link in the keyword. Basically, I am promoting my blog homepage on web 2.0 websites through linkwheeling technique.
I am not focusing on target keywords at all. It's that I write an original post or two and publish both by interlinking them with each other and with one blog. I hope you are getting my point:)

Marc Bell ∙ 17 weeks ago

Hey There!

I totally understand what your saying : )

Now only if we can get the creators of the search engine algorithms to understand ; )

But it's considered blackhat because Google wants you to create the best content on the web and have people link to you naturally.

The thing is that If we wait to climb the ranks without engineering and implementing some type of linking strategy it can take months or even years.

Our time is too valuable! Right?

But that what they want us to do.

So...

When you do it yourself they call it "cheating their algorithm" ...

Which explains why I recommend you to build them slowly if you do decide to use the linkwheel technique.

I agree with Marc Bell, those are points to promote your blog and get traffic. Add your blog in social bookmarking sites and if you know about networkblog which application in facebook connect it because there are also a lot of blogger using such application

Marc Bell ∙ 17 weeks ago

1. Add a blog to your website. If your website is static (e.g., a corporate site or an online store), consider adding a blog to it, where youll write new content regularly. This will give your visitors a reason to come back, and your search engine traffic will increase too. If you need a blog software, check out WordPress (it is free and easy to use).

2. Leave comments on other blogs. Develop the habit of visiting blogs inside your niche and leaving comments on them. You can include a link to your website on each comment, and some visitors will certainly come through those links. You can use Bdjobs to find blogs in any niche.

3. Write guest posts. Most blogs accept guest posts. That is, they allow you to write a post for them, and usually the post carries an author byline with a link to your website. Simply send your article to the blog owner and ask whether or not he wants to publish it as a guest post.

4. Sponsor blog contests. Another common practice around the blogosphere are contests. You can sponsor one by donating products or money, and the blogger will link to your website from the contest page.

5. Join a blog carnival. Blog carnivals are online events where bloggers get together to write about one specific topic. The host of the carnival will them write a round-up post linking to all the participant entries, and participants usually link to each others entries as well. You can organize one with your friends, or browse for existing ones at BlogCarnival.com.

6. Network, network, network. Ever heard the saying it is not about what you know, but who you know? It applies to promoting a website as well. If you become a friend with a blogger or website owner, he will be much more likely to link to your website and send traffic your way. A good way to achieve this is to link to other bloggers first and to establish a relationship via email.
