My secret is really just getting on forums, posting comments on blogs, gaining friends. Posting articles, and working on making my blog informative to attract readers. It is updated frequently and contains some useful information.

Don't know how big of a secret that really is but my blog is still fairly new, but it's working for me.

Thanks for the info. I visited your site and commented on http://www.fastmoneyonlineblogging.com/the-right-blogging-platform-for-your-needs/ .

I guess you get a lot of contextual backlinks going back to your site from your forum postings? How much time do you spend on forum posting per week?

DylanJames says 98 days ago

ElopeGal,

Thank you for the post, I'll keep an eye out for it. I have some contextual backlinks, you can never have to many. I actually spend a lot of time on this site looking through talks and others sites.

There are 3 others that I post on as well. One of them is warrior forum, it is a really good forum to be posting on and can also get a lot of good advice and tips too. I will post 3-4 times a day, some might say it's a lot and others say it's not enough but it is just really up to you.

Hi
I guess there is no secret, but if there is I'd really like to know. I think of a subject that i'm passionate about, whether good or bad, write it up and post. I try my best to make sure my content is readable to anyone and use pics to help at times. I visit other people's blog and only leave genuine, yes genuine comments about their posts. I do the same if I review a blog. I also vote sincerely and not just to get voted back. I do a post once a week and make sure that I reply to any comments that need a response. I'm happy with my progress so far as a new blogger but still have a long way to go and lots to learn. That's it. Secret or Not!

ElopeGal says 97 days ago

Thanks for sharing your ideas. I agree with passion. Any task (e.g. blogging, etc.) is just a mundane job, until you add the secret sauce -- passion -- and then it becomes motivating avocation. I love to meet people that are passionate about their craft whether it be authors, musicians, artists, and yes, even life insurance salespeople. Passionate people create the most interesting products -- products that people gravitate to. Great suggestion.

One question -- is there anything that you do that works to get Google to improve your organic search listing position?

ElopeGal says 97 days ago

I forgot something.

I wanted to commend you on your blog http://rumpunchdrunk.blogspot.com . It's hard to tell from the website name what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised with the high quality of writing, the cerebral concepts, and exposition of ideas. Your writing encourages a "stickiness" -- read one article, and then you become curious and want to read another article. Well done.

All of your topics are heart-touching and I want to continue to follow.

I'm all about the content. If I can get people reading one of my articles, I feel like I can keep them interested. They might not always agree with what I say, but that's life. Check me out at http://banginsbelievers.blogspot.com

ElopeGal says 97 days ago

I just visited your blog and commented on http://banginsbelievers.blogspot.com/2012/02/action-builds-confidence.html

One of the difficulties I face is: even if you write interesting content -- how do you get people to find your interesting content?

That's why I like to recommend using Bloggers.com's Topics Timeline. I find that I can quickly scan all new blog posts and expand topics and bloggers that I may find interesting.

I think that I am overly focused on SEO keywords, RSS syndication, backlinking, and improving my blog's organic SERP. This is great when someone is searching for exactly the topics and keyword that you blog about.

I guess for me the "secret" for me is how can a blogger get wide distribution of their content in front of readers willing to read anything interesting, whatever that might be.

For example, one of my website pages got picked up by freelance writer and her story ran in USA Today and was immediately syndicated to many other newspapers. Those articles got recommended to DIGG and Delicious and later to a news aggregator - PopURLS. Within 3 days, I saw over 210,000 hits.

It's interesting, that in a normal period of time, this webpage gets 15,000 views a month (over 6,000 Google referrals), and ONE mention in a newspaper article drove over 14 months of traffic in 3 days.

it's very simple. Do what you love and you will love what you do. Just be yourself and find that inner talent, some people good in writing, some people good in taking photo, some people good in drawing, some people good in taking pictures, some people good in acting, some people good in music. You just have to know who you are, embrace that section and you will be loved for who you are ;)

ElopeGal says 97 days ago

I like your comment. It's all about being passionate about your interests.

You wrote a post recently about the Top 5 Regrets that People Have on the Deathbeds
http://naththinks.blogspot.com/2012/02/nurse-reveals-top-5-regrets-people-make.html

I found it very interesting because item 1 is "I wish I’d had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me." When people realize that their life is almost over and look back clearly on it, it is easy to see how many dreams have gone unfulfilled.

One of the biggest problems I see is that sometimes people get so busy that they don't have time for their passions. I am lucky that I can invest time to perfect my passions of writing, photography, design, etc. Unfortunately, many others can't because they are so busy with things that I consider nonsense. For example, I diverted all my previous TV watching time (2 or 3 hours a day) into writing. Guess what -- I found the time to write two short e-books and I am working on a short docu-fiction novel.

Short answer -- find and understand what you are passionate about, get rid of the useless time-wasters, and invest this new-found time in what you are passionate about -- before it is too late.

My trick is to visit other blogs, connect with your followers on twitter, blog hops are a big way to boost views and my main one is through social networkslike this..

ElopeGal says 97 days ago

Thanks for the link. Sites like BlogAholicNetwork and Bloggers.com do a great job of helping readers find interesting content that they would not normally be seeking.

Other sites that i find helpful in a similar way are: Digg.com, Delicious.com, Reddit.com, and PopURLS.com -- oh, and now Pinterest.com. Readers post interesting photos, articles, links and viewers can vote on the best items which leads to promoting the best content. Seems to me like a great way to build traffic and hopefully loyal readers.

I love all the photos that you have on your site http://melissanevaehjiedyn.blogspot.com/

I hope someday to visit Australia. What part of Australia are you from? One of my other talks is about my fondness for websites that feature pictures of their towns and surrounding areas.

Dustzilla says 98 days ago

trick is.. guest posting, submitting your blog to different search engines especially, google, bing and yahoo. submit rss feed, promote your blog on social networking sites like FB and twitter, podcast on youtube, use keywords for SEO, create a bond between readers and other blogs related to your topic, have a great content for readers to comeback everyday, comment on other blogs, make yourself visible in the blogosphere...

ElopeGal says 97 days ago

I agree that RSS syndication is key. Do you get any traction with FaceBook? It seems like I spend a lot of time on FB, but because of the limited applications, it is hard for me to divert readership to my blog. I just don't feel that people use FB to find interesting articles to read. FB is great for friends to keep in touch with each other, but funnel to direct traffic to a blog, . . . well, I haven't figured it out.

Great post on how to treat a lady on your blog. I am sure that it will get a lot of views.

I don't know if I have any big secrets to share but I promote my blog as much as I can on twitter and facebook and also have a fan page.....I visit other blogs and leave thoughtful comments and not just fluff......I try to engage my readers with good content and information, I post on forums and also try to link up and do link exchanges with other blogs or try to cross promote and do write ups on other blogs. I also have a youtube channel which I link back to my blog. I know I do more but I just can't think of them at the moment. It takes some hard work but the result is worth it.

ElopeGal says 97 days ago

Interesting blog. I got engrossed in your post on the bucket list and commented on http://wadingthroughthewaters.blogspot.com/2012/01/bucket-list.html

I like your suggestion about doing cross promotion with other blogs. I frequently ask blog owners to allow me to write guest blog posts and it almost inevitably gets me good traffic from their sites.

Do you see any traffic coming from Facebook, besides friends? Other than keeping in touch with friends and acquaintances, I am stumped on how to use Facebook search to source credible readers. Any hints.

Sridhar says 97 days ago

Thank you Jessica, I do the same.

The secret is to share as much real information as possible to genuinely help people who come to your blog. Post content with meat and in a conversational way to keep them hooked. Help them share the content through twitter or facebook. Thats what I do in my blog or small businesses and entrepreneurs in

http://recruiterbox.com/blog

ElopeGal says 97 days ago

I really liked your blog's format and layout. Lot's of actionable content in an easy to read format.

I particularly liked http://recruiterbox.com/blog/53/5-ways-of-rewarding-employees-when-you-cant-pay-them-more.

I would suggest two ideas that I used very successfully.

1 - Take your employee (either singularly or with spouse) out for lunch or dinner. There are a lot of things that can be said outside of the workplace that a smart employer can pick up on to better motivate the employee. Secondly, if the spouse is there, it's a great opportunity to show him/her how you value the employee.

2 - Ask the employee how they could improve the company (improve procedures, increase sales, reduce costs, etc.) Ask the employee to investigate and come up with a plan for you to review. Good plans can be implemented and credited to the employee in front the entire company.

Great stuff -- I didn't see a place to comment otherwise I would.

Alexis Wilke says 96 days ago

Well... then I guess I won't read your blog as I don't like beer... 8-)

Now I like the cleanliness of your site. Many blogs don't work well. Yours is good!

However, in link with SEO, you are missing one very important thing: you must put an ALT attribute to your image tags. Without that, Google and such will have a much harder time to correct index your images (without it they use the next few words which often are not 100% related. Plus it adds text to your pages.)

Good luck!

Yonaa says 96 days ago

thank you for your advice my friend..
I will add your suggestion..

If you don't like beer, I'll voted for your idea.. :-)

Alexis Wilke says 96 days ago

ElopeGal,

Well... now that you gave out your numbers, I think many bloggers will have a harder time to share with you. Most users here don't even have 100 visitors a month (especially beginners.)

As many mentioned, I think that your blog will start with good content. Preferably well written (and here you have another strong point for you: you're a copywriter which means you can apply your skills in writing so people will read your posts, and even if you don't know it, you are applying your copywriting skills, automatically.)

The next step is sharing. There are the few things I do:

* RSS feed--all sites MUST have an RSS feed. Without it you lose readership because many people will just keep your RSS feed in their mail system so they can read your post right from the same location they read their emails.

* On-site SEO is important if you have a clear subject. "Unfortunately" for some bloggers that's not the case. So they end up with a site that's not easy to index. On the other hand, someone who has a very narrow subject, say black holes, will automatically get high SEO about black holes, no matter what. For example, I am creating a new product and have a site for it here: http://snapwebsites.org/ where I write many things that are all centered on the same thing, yet are not really targeted SEO things. On the other hand I have websites where I write content with SEO in mind. (Especially on the Snap! Websites Journal: http://snapwebsites.info/journal )

* Social Media are the channels you want to use as a blogger (Facebook and Twitter are the two big ones, you may also want to use Digg, Delicious and other similar bookmarking systems, I also like StumbleUpon and Pinterest indeed.) To ease this process, you may want to look into a system such as Ping.fm which broadcast your info toward many accounts all at once.

* If you want to go further, then you want to get out on forums, probably forums that are in link with your subject even though you will meet your competition (some people are "scared" of those) that's also where others are more likely to find you. The Warrior forum (mention by someone earlier) is great, but really only if your end goal is to sell something. There are many other forums, however.

* Write articles that you publish on other websites (what some still call Press Releases, but for bloggers, it probably shouldn't be called that way...) This may not work for all blogs though. Other websites may be other blogs or sites that accept articles in general (news site, or "articles sites".) Always be careful and look at the site closely first though. If the site doesn't look too attractive, it may not be worth the trouble. Also the home page should have a good Google rank (5+).

* For software and software related websites that offer products for download or documentation/references, create a PadFile (one per software, and documentation.) This gives me a lot of traffic for two reasons: my posts appear all over the place in an automated way thus the Google rank of those pages increases which then sends me traffic for searches. I think PadFile can work for e-books, but it probably won't work if it's not somewhat technical.

(to be continued...)

ElopeGal says 95 days ago

Thanks, you provided a lot of helpful, specific suggestions. I am back after a 2 day catastrophic computer failure.

Your second point regarding ON-SITE SEO is very important to improving your articles' organic SERP. As I understand on-site SEO it is the approach to writing articles that target for a particular keyword or phrase by optimizing content and HTML elements to help Search Engines properly categorize the article in it's index . I use SEOpressor which monitors my posts to make sure that I have the right keyword densities, use proper HTML formatting (H1, H2, H3 titles), picture ALT text, and on-screen formatting (BOLD, ITALICS, Underline) for keywords.

More recently, I started paying attention to an area related to keywords: Latent Semantic Indexing (LSI). I saw an analysis of Google search results that segmented the TOP 100, Second 100, Third 100 and fourth 100 website results for a keyword. The TOP 100 sites used over 80% of the LSI keywords and phrases for the targeted keyword; Second 100 used between 60 and 75%, Third 100 used from 45% to 60%, and the fourth 100 sites used less than 45% of the keyword LSI. These results were repeatedly seen for various keywords that were tested.

This analysis showed that Google favored articles (and sites) that not only had good keyword densities, but also incorporated the targeted keyword's LSI derivatives: more LSI keyword/phrases -- higher ranking.

[You can find LSI keywords and phrases for your keyword, use Google's Related Keyword tool or a tool like LSIDigger.]

I also like your PRESS RELEASE suggestion. Journalists and freelance writers scour press releases (and RSS feeds) for topics that will make interesting news articles. A single news story in print or the Internet mentioning your article or site can create an avalanche of traffic.

Alexis Wilke says 96 days ago

(2nd part)
* Create a Squidoo Lens once in a while. I do that too. In general I create one lens per website. That way you get a few free backlinks and you may even get a few SquidLike which can very well work in your interest. I even wrote one for Bloggers.com http://www.squidoo.com/bloggers-com (and I would of course appreciate some SquidLike's... 8-)))) )

* More work for you... but a better way. If you like to talk about multiple subjects, subjects that are clearly different from each others, create one blog per subject. For example, you may like fashion clothing and makeup. Do two sites. That one you get fashion clothing hits on one and makeup hits on the other. Then you link both all the time (avoiding direct cross linking page A pointing to page B and vice versa.) That way you can promote two genuine websites between each others all on your own.

Well... thinking of it, maybe you just want to read my Snap! Websites Journal...
http://snapwebsites.info/journal

I still have a lot of things to talk about and will probably post them there. 8-)

Sorry but I was not able to comment on your site. I tried to post the comment below to your http://snapwebsites.info/comment/reply/173?destination=node/173#comment-form

"Writing posts regularly is a great discipline to have to improve one's SEO ranking. Google monitors post frequency and factors it into their indexing algorithm. For example, I was reviewing RSS feeds to add to my reading list, and Google shows each feed with a posts-per-week counter. RSS feeds that had high posts-per-week counts had substantially higher subscription rates that those with lower counts.

But how can one write posts more frequently?

1 - Writing is about having fresh ideas, so I follow RSS feeds of blogs in my sector to find new ideas and topic trends.

2 - You can write more frequently if you simplify your writing. It takes a lot more effort and research to write a 700 word article than it is to write a 250 word article. I simply the task by focusing on more specific topics requiring less writing and I embed more related images and videos that help emphasize the topic.

Adrian"

3 - Quality and Original Content

Hi ElopeGal,

For me, it's not really my secret but rather my practice. I am practicing the following:

1. Regular and Unique Content (Content Is King in internet world, thus, regular and unique content is important to drive the traffics, especially from the search engines).

2. SEO-friendly post (I am not an SEO expert but I do pay attention in the following SEO-friendly practices as well:
a. Ensure Keywords are scattered nicely in the post and right keywords density (not too many though).
b. Applying enough inner links as well as outwords link (to external sites) in my post.
c. Write the relevant blog tags

3. Attractive blog title (this is like the front door of your blog post, usually visitors will base on the blog title to decide whether to continue reading or not).

That'sall from me for now and hope you have a great days ahead of you.
