When u hear about India,What is that first strikes ur mind?

Ritesh Srivastav on Opinion, Suggestions, Inquiry

I myself is an Indian & there is a fair possibility of a biased answer. But still when I look at it in an unbiased manner I find the first thing what reflects is India's present state of misery inspite of its vast potential to emerge as a nation of excellence!
What u think about it?
Every opinion is whole heartedly welcomed provided the dignity of a nation is not challenged!

cricket!
(I personally hate this game though!)

Ritesh Srivastav ∙ 18 weeks ago

Interesting comment!
But dear Cricket is only a passion for Indians. There r lot more passions like that & some passions r even greater than it.!

Hotei ∙ 18 weeks ago

RED! the colour red comes to my mind, guess thinking of the wonderful rose' sunsets this country is blessed with, and definitely as a food lover...Food the wide variety of spices and flavours :)

Rahmat Fadhli ∙ 18 weeks ago

bollywood movies and food with lots of flavor :)

Ritesh Srivastav ∙ 18 weeks ago

Awesome description Hotei I believe its the rich Italian culture u inherit that makes u so humble.
And bro Rahmat u talked of some more passions other than Cricket. But its fine!

Ritesh Srivastav ∙ 18 weeks ago

Looking at some of ur comments let me try to throw light on some of the aspects. not talked about. They r its rich heritage, its wonderful environment, its cultural diversity, its soothing music, its marvelous arts & architecture, its great personalities, its democratic & secular structure with a large population & similar of those kind.I believe now some of u must have got that.See there is nothing to appreciate only, u can criticize ofcourse.
Let me make a start here too.that is its massive poverty, its extra large population, its large scale corruption, its poor infrastructural facilities, its unhygenic surroundings, its unaccountable politicians & similar of those kind.
Satyamev Jayate.....truth alone triumphs....!

Rumpunch Drunk ∙ 18 weeks ago

To be totally honest here, and I'm not being disrespectful, when I think of India today I remember the recent rape victim, and the way women are being treated at the moment.

Before I learned about the above situation, I had a dream to go to India since I was very young. My dream has not died, as maybe one day I will get to go there.

I want to open the plane doors and step out to hot sunny weather, the smell of spices that we don't get in the UK. Colourful clothes, hustle and bustle. Music played on instruments we don't see here. Authentic Indian foods made with authentic ingredients. I want to see Indian people living daily lives in villages. My list is endless..

Hjamnette ∙ 18 weeks ago

curry and taj mahal!=D

Princess Blog ∙ 18 weeks ago

Rumpunch, let me know when are you coming. Lolz.

Rumpunch Drunk ∙ 18 weeks ago

Of course :)

Ritesh Srivastav ∙ 18 weeks ago

Starting from ....Princess comment....our constitution is one of words best constitution...it reflects the aspirations of common pple....to form a just society....but what if the pple themselves remains irresponsible ...!
Mr. Dustin ....it was fine ...except Pakistan .....because u cannot clap single handedly....this is Pak govt. Anti Indian approach but still we love the pple there....!
Mr. Rampunch.....the rape was really a tragic issue recently....but this is that part of society which everyone of us condemn .....India is now taking it very seriously now....& we aspire fr global support ....!

Ritesh Srivastav ∙ 18 weeks ago

Well Hjamnette....it was u first who pointed the wonder Taj mahal....fine..!

Ritesh Srivastav ∙ 18 weeks ago

The wisdom of India is also not talked about. It has given the world those enlightened sages, contemplative sucks, visionary philosophers & great thinkers who contributed their whole life for welfare for all.

Princess Blog ∙ 18 weeks ago

I agree Ritesh about every good thing you said about India. But being an Indian too, I believe one should always accept the negatives and try to correct it and make positive. I don't think there is any wrong in whatever me or rumpunch said. Unless and until we portray ourselves better in these fields like laws, rapes, women... we are lagging behind some where.
I just hope that the day comes soon when these minor yet major issues would be taken care of correctly and on time.
Otherwise, I love India.

Ritesh Srivastav ∙ 18 weeks ago

Princess.....I too believe the best is yet to come....& afterall we Indians r also a global citizen ....so why to look anything specifically only....crimes r not just limited to 1 nation ....its a human psychological error which should be rectified together as a whole .....!

When I think India I always remember cricket and long movies that never ends without pretty young girls dancing all over .

Wished I get married to an Indian someday 'cos their girls is the prettiest I have ever set my eyes on

Teddy ∙ 18 weeks ago

May I ask a question ?
Why do the women put a dot between their eyes ? Sometimes it's red and sometimes it's black. or are they just beauty marks ?

Ritesh Srivastav ∙ 18 weeks ago

Well...Mr. Obasi....I believe u too be a native of warm tropical belt with very high temperatures....But brother don't heat up ur thinking like that....The cultural colors of our country is projected largely from our woman class...I appreciate ur comment in that context only...!

Ritesh Srivastav ∙ 18 weeks ago

Brother Teddy ....those dots r called "Bindi" ....its a cultural symbol of a married woman in general in India...!

Princess Blog ∙ 18 weeks ago

Teddy its a tradition in Hindu religion. Red signifies married, and black unmarried. But these days, nothing such significations... Girls either don't use it, or use it in anyway regardless of the color.

Teddy ∙ 18 weeks ago

Okay, very similar to the wedding band on the hand but more direct for the possible advances of the opposite sex to see. Thanks for explaining.

Ritesh Srivastav ∙ 18 weeks ago

Infact there r bright chances fr u Teddy to invest in cosmetics in India...An evergreen industry here ....!

Teddy ∙ 18 weeks ago

I guess the question would then be , HOW MUCH ?

Princess Blog ∙ 18 weeks ago

Good morning friends.
Teddy, don''t people sleep in Clorado?
Well how is, ....
Amount with which you can set up your business, have your accomodation and manage for your bread and butter!

Teddy ∙ 18 weeks ago

I sleep about 4 hours a day generally. Sometimes to get some place you have to sacrifice. Right now things are tight but there was a time when I made 35 an hour. I don't expect to stay down for long for as long as I have breath and can think then there is always hope for advancement . So I wonder how much it would take to purchase a beginners amount or should I say what is the minimum to begin with. We still have a hummer payment , house payment and the norm.

Princess Blog ∙ 18 weeks ago

Good luck with all those things. Plan about having business there only. That would be more convenient for for.

Teddy ∙ 18 weeks ago

P.S. Good morning Princess.

Hi Ritesh, The first thing that comes to my mind is Mahatma Gandhi!
But sadly, along with it also comes corruption, unruly traffic, beggars and dirty roads!

Ritesh Srivastav ∙ 18 weeks ago

I appreciate ur answer Nina.....Gandhiji was truly a whole package of Indian values ....for the other part ...
I can say that India is keen to check & rectify that ..

Mister Potato ∙ 15 weeks ago

India is where my ancestors came from...so i think its normal for me to go visit this beautiful country.

Mikeandy ∙ 15 weeks ago

After heard the name India, the first thing strikes the mind is its oneness with holding many diversities, culture, religion, food, dress, languages, architecture, historical places and many more which can't be explain in words.

Mister Potato ∙ 15 weeks ago

When I think about India I saw it as a great nation, but still in several states good services are still lacking. When you add the sum of poverty, illiteracy, corruption, malnutrition, inadequate public healthcare, and terrorism, India is struggling to remain a strong nation. With different cultures and so many languages, the people of India, remain in solidarity and are working for their progress. When you see in many parts of India, slums and the bad condition people are living in, it makes your heart ache. And you start to question or to thank God, of your comfort.Proper drinking is a major problem, and add this to unsanitary living its a mess. But India, this vast land, has so much natural resources, that still needs to be exploited for the benefit of health and economic development.Indians are hard-working people, still they have the lowest income.People from distant villages and remote cities , i must say "fleeing" to more developed towns and cities to get better education, a decent salary and proper health, so what happens to those who remains in those far away villages, distant from progress and technology?
When we are talking about over 1.2 billion people make the percentage of illiteracy blow.Developed cities have decent technology, Finance Institutions and Law schools, Universities. The same as developed countries like the States. But STILL, a very bad service from local governments and affiliate bodies.Too much corruption and the sad system of Caste still prevails and eating away social lives.
Still, India i think is a beautiful to visit, but not to live.

Ritesh Srivastav ∙ 15 weeks ago

Mister Potato ...friend I appreciate ur efforts to gather that information about India & u have given some good points for the future challenges of Indian society ....fine.....but in ur last sentence u have made a narrow remark...
India is as beautiful to live as to visit my friend ...amidst all challenges people of India love their land more than anything else...our strength is unity un diversity & we r conscious towards our duty to make it a far better place than present .....Mauritius even has special tax benefits to invest in India....& we welcome every one to share our bright culture of love & tolerance .....!

Robert ∙ 15 weeks ago

caste system. There are many Indians in my country and when one marries from the other caste there is serious trouble. I have come to believe that caste system defines India and the clans hate themselves heaven to earth

Ritesh Srivastav ∙ 15 weeks ago

Ok....Robert I accept ur criticism but I would like to tell u my friend that this evil of caste system is far less effective in our country at present compared to the past centuries. In the ancient times even this system was not evil as caste was the differentiation based on occupation but later it was impurified with rigid rules of birth....& that was an unconscious mistake I believe ...however our supreme philosophy has always been of love & peace towards all without any differentiation & we aspire global support to attain that state in totality ...!

Robert ∙ 15 weeks ago

I almost forgot Mahatma Gandhi, though my Indian friend told me that he is not celebrated and commemorated at home like abroad. But it's becoz of him that makes me feel Indians value humanity more than themselves. Real role model and inspiration.

Most definitely the food! Indian cuisine is by far my favorite. It's so fragrant and generally healthy.
Also, courtesy comes to mind. I've noticed that people who call India their homeland tend to be extraordinarily polite. It's quite refreshing.

Ibn Hanif ∙ 14 weeks ago

I am from Kashmir, Pakistan when I think of India I also think of a promise that a plebiscite or referendum will be held through which people of Kashmir will decide if they wish to live with India or Pakistan or wish to live as a separate state.

Other than this I think of Sachin Tendulkar ; a great player of Cricket.

Best Wishes !

Ritesh Srivastav ∙ 14 weeks ago

Friend Hanif....Jammu & Kashmir is an integral part of India since its inception through Raja Hari Singh & the series of events that followed afterwards is only a misinterpretation & misunderstanding of Pakistan about the Kashmir issue. The historical immaturity of Pakistan is responsible for every sort of terror in Kashmir & if that time, energy & resources were used by it for its own developmental parameters, Pakistan would have been a great state in accordance of its potential brother.
Both India & Pakistan share the same cultural heritage & this must be understood & realized more than anything else friend ....!

When I think of India, I think of a good lunch of dahl on flatbread and some good temple incense from Mysore releasing it's subtle fragrances of Heaven in the other room from where I am and I think of Ravi Shankar playing that beautiful sitar music and I think of my white Nehru Jacket because I liked Panditchi a lot . . . and Ghandi too. I think of the Ganges and some of the beautiful temples. I think of Delhi and Calcutta and a hundred other places an then I remember my Indian friends and I feel blessed to have known them all.
