Okay, so I'm starting to write some books. Is there any tips I can get that will help me write a well written story? Any ideas or topics I should write about?
Well, if anybody has anything just comment or write me:) Thanks! Or you can email me at: holtstephanie8@aol.com
Yeah, I recommend writing every day and to read as many books as you can get your hands on.
Before I started writing my novel, I did a lot of research and outlined the plot. I also did character sketches which is mainly making notes of what the characters looked like, what their personalities were like, interests, etc. I talk about all of this stuff on my blog. Just make time for your writing and something will come out of it. :) It can be a slow, lonely process which is frustrating but it's worth the end result.
PUBLISHING is interesting. However it is very demanding. WHY? I have been editor of several community newsletters; published my own monthly magazine and helped out in several magazines.
The raw material or fuel is content. It becomes scarce too soon. $ paged newsletters fizzle within a few issues of release.
A novel may be different. Though it can be condensed into a chapter. However it is stretched into several chapters, the plot is twisted, tuned and turned, the choice of words must thrill the reader to sit up, bite nails and refuse to sleep.
Go ahead, publish your first novel. Have it rehearsed in your mind to thrill and entertain. Write the script over and over again. The computer is a blessing.... erase and retype...save and check the following day... you can go backwards to edit... save the pages...proof read on the screen...etc etc
You would already know, that the printer sets the minimum economical print run. Be prepared for the marketing or your house would become the stores.
well it depends on the audiance you want to appeal to. if its preteens (cough, cough me) then they like fiction supernatural. if its young adults they like every day conflict or well my sister does. and if your appealing to adults... well im not sure. but i think its easyest to write for your own age group. write what you would be interested in. :)
I agree. Write what you want to write about. Write about something you're passionate about. That's what I do and it usually helps create a great story if you're interested in it.
First of all you should try to write few tiny story (honestly it's tough to keep story tight). Try to get your vision clear with describing some event, conversation and such. And of course what you know better you can write better. Start with your experience and interest then go beyond.
Hi you said that you would like to write (publish) a book. I do not think, you said "novel". Novels can be romantic; mysterious; thrillers. Do you have a plot? Have the characters emerged? Is their characteristics established? location? time/season? Start writing and build it to climax. Books in general can be anything. How to have a BUTTERFLY FARM would appeal to one group while a book on the FEMALE BUTTERFLY would appeal to females who want to be light and bright. There will be a market for whatever you publish. Success is when it spills over to the curious and just not remain with those who are interested. Growth. Attempt a book on universal interest for both sexes of all age groups. Topics are plenty. Start or you will not finish.
Thank you for your help. I'm getting started and I write every single day. I'm writing a fiction book and a teens book. Then I might write one about my life.
When we put our experiences into a book, it becomes a lesson to others in the same scenario. What are you so good at, that can become a book entitled "HOW TO ......" HOW TO MAKE 365 DIFFERENT BREAKFASTS? 365 ACTIVITIES for CHILDREN BELOW 3. HOME IMPROVEMENT... 365 GREAT IDEAS. FOUR FIGURES FLEE MARKET INCOME.
It can be anything. No subject remains untouched and unexplored anymore. The market is there. Every topic has its fair share of readers. Marketing and publicity decides which author/publishers gets the larger readership.
Are you saying I can basically write about anything I want to and that will be fine. As long as its interesting and makes sense. I have a whole bunch of things I can write about:)
"HOW TO STOP WORRYING AND START LIVING". I will not mention the author. Do you know who is the author? Is this and the other titles by the same author still in demand? Shahid is right. Your inclination; your specialty; your passion; your expertise. That matters first. Will it be a best seller? Will there be reprints? Will any publisher fall at your feet and literally beg for it,and promise continuing royalty to you? OR are you publishing for publishing sake and it does not matter whether you give away all 5,000 copies free of charge. More to think about. While thinking continue your writings.
I was just given this advice on my blog and it speaks true to why I what I write:
"Be more of what you want to see in the world."
I write because I want people to see a different side of life they may never see. Sometimes, I base certain things in my books so we can all learn from them. It's always best to write from the heart and don't be afraid to write your own experiences into your books. If people can learn from them, it's always a good thing. :) I want to read books that I know the writer loved writing. When they felt passionate about their book, I felt that too.
Forget about marketing right now. Forget about what "readers may want". Think about yourself as a writer and what you want to read that isn't written yet. :)
